Lots of good info here!
I'm also looking for the best material for 3-season outdoor pants. Summers can be hot here, which means a light, breathable material works best but, on the other hand, I often have to scramble over large rocks and boulders when hiking, so abrasion resistance and durability are mandatory. Once in awhile I hike in the rain, so that is another consideration.
The best type of material for each of these conditions have completely opposite characteristics. Denim is good for abrasion resistance but it's heavy and, since it's cotton, soaks up a lot of water and takes a long time to dry (not an option for rain or snow, or for many wilderness situations). I've tried nylon pants but even though they were high-quality they showed a lot of wear, and even started tearing, after only a few hours scrambling over rocks.
I've never bought BDU's, or any cotton/poly blend, so don't know anything about them, but these seem to be the most popular. Do you think they would be best for my situation? Other suggestions?
Thanks!
