Surefire LED Flashlights

imho the best 2 surefire lights for "tac" use are the L2 and the L4, no doubt about it.

the fenix P1D-CE are about the same brightness but dont really work well as a "tac" light, and excellent edc light though, my new favorite.

Hey guys, wait a little while. SF just came out with new LED models, with insane runtime, due to new CREE LEDs
I've been hemming and hawing on a g2/6p... do you know what models will be coming out? I currently have an inova x1 and an arc aaa-p on the way.

Surefire is amazing. I have a L4. I would recommend this to anyone wanting the best and willing to pay the price.

Ditto that recommendation for the L4. I have one, and it's one of my favs. If you don't mind a tad larger light, the L5 is even better, IMO.

I love my L4 (it's the one of my 20+ flashlights that gets used the most, besides my very samll keychain light).
BUT--one thing to remember, is that though it is a 100 lumen 5W luxeon, it is a floody beam. Total output is incredible. It lights up a large room easily, and most of the backyard pretty well if it's dark out, but it does NOT throw like a light of 1/2 the lumens output that is engineered to throw. It is a wonderful, amazing light. Just do not expect to be able to see long distances with it.
The L4 will not be getting te Cree XR-E upgrades at first. A few models will, which will give roughly double thr run times or double the output, depending on how they are released.
Very exciting times to be a flashlight freak.

Hi

My ex boyfriend turned me onto the Surefire brand. I told my new boyfriend about it, so we went out and he bought me one. we took it camping this past weekend..it worked really well. it was overcast-- no stars out, and even the moon was obscured-- so it was pitch black, and I pulled out my little surefire and it lit the whole tent right up. we didnt need a heavy lantern or anything, just the surefire. the batteries are expensive, but its totally worth it.

I was just reading about the Fenix P1D-CE over on CPF. Looks pretty interesting.

I have been reading and researching the Fenix brand and read nothing but good about those little lights and most of them work on one AA or AAA battery! Cheap to but made in CHINA!

alot of you like the L4 and thats kind of what i'm leaning towards but then I look at the L2 with two different outputs (high and low) ? This shouldn't be that hard of a decision!

The L2 is a longer light than the L4. Makes a bit of a difference in how you are able to carry it, IMO. I find the L2 a bit too long to simply clip to the front pocket of my jeans, like I do with my L4. I carry my L2 clipped to the inside pocket of my jacket.

The L4 is rated a bit better and is smaller so it is more practical to carry. It is the benchmark in which other LED EDC lights are measured, and few match it. You can get a tailcap with the dual stage for the LED from a place called the Sandwiche Shopp or something.

between the L2 and the L4 i would probably take the L4 just because its smaller.

i have an L2, dont like the pocket clip (i removed it, i never use them anyway) and the low output option isnt something i use a lot, probably wish i woulda got a L4 instead, but its a good lite, i'll eventually put a KL4 on my E2e and have about the same thing anyway (well for another $150 anyway lol)

as far as throw i compared my L2 to my Z3 and the L2 throws at least as well, certainly enough for what i use it for anyway.

I EDC a L4.

Only light I'd trade it for would be a rechargeable of the same size.

You can use a rechargeable lithium ion battery in the L4. The size you need is a 17670 or 17mm x 67mm. The only thing to watch out for is apparently some L4 bodies are too narrow for it to fit. I'm not sure if it's newer ones or older ones that are the problem. You can get a lot more info at http://candlepowerforums.com.

Its the newer ones that are tapered so rechargeables won`t fit. That said, my L4 is what I go for if throw isn`t needed. I have lights that are made for throw and they have the WOW factor. The L4 is used more for me.

My personal favorite SureFire LED light is the E2L Outdoorsman. This is the light I took out on my 10-day trek to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. The output stayed at a consistent level and nothing stopped it from working; dropping it down a rock face, dropping it in the night when I tripped over a rock on the trail back to the camp, when it was pouring rain and we needed to set up a shelter for the gear in the middle of the night; I put fresh batteries in it before the trip and haven't changed them YET. It's really a great light and is still pretty blindingly bright at 30 lumens---the lighter shade as compared to the xenon tac lights seems just as bright. I used it to light up a ridge and spot a moutain line. Despite being at least 50 feet higher than us and over 100 yards away, the bright beam of my E2L send it scrambling over the ridge---that was a sight to behold. That's just my honest opinions. Hope I helped. God Bless America.
