Surviors! Off Topic & Nonsense talk thread!

I'll bet that shot of the night sky was beautiful in real life. I've always wondered what kind of pictures a guy could get if you could carry a mini LarsL in the pack and get him out when you need a really good shot! :D

Here's a shot from a hunting camp we use in a section of Hells Canyon. It's one of those times the photo didn't do it justice.

Wow, just gorgeous,, I can't wait to get back to Utah, I miss scenery like that.
Always loved Idaho too, great trout rivers and streams

Thanks, that's one of my favorite places on earth. Although you can flat get yourself into a hike if you're not careful, ha!

Dunno if I'm gonna give it an acid bath or just go ahead and put an edge on it and start on the sheath. Kinda bummed this one is already slated to go to a buddy at work.

Oo yeah. I'll melt a pile of aluminum cans and show a pic, see if he still wants it.

Got a pretty nice edge on it, took it to 1500 grit on my KME at 22 degrees then stropped on 2k wetdry, black compound on leather, then green compound on balsa. Not sure about edge retention yet but it took about 4 hours to put the edge on, it was definitely hardened. I need to sack up and smack it through a brass rod or some zip ties or something and just give the dude one of my ESEE's or Beckers or something else if I tear it up. Actually used a camera instead of my phone for these, kept using different settings, still don't know which work better.

Sent this sheath for a Fiddleback off a while ago, love how it came out. I want to do one for one of my S!K's, just have to quit bouncing around from project to project.

Nonsense I say!

Thank you both, means a lot to me. Creating things that don't suck is pretty freaking great.

Grogie, you better start thinking about your future knife Co's name or do you have a short list already?

UGH. Uncles Gravery Handmade. Uncles- One of my uncles was a huge knife nut, died from cancer at 45. Another uncle was a leatherworking guru for saddlework, died 2 years ago. Gravery - my army nickname is grog, my best friend in the world and motivation is Avery. Combined the two. Handmade is what it is.

You're a good man Grog! Condolences about your losses. This one time, I'm behaving myself :)

Beautiful sheath. Which Fiddleback is that, a Kephart? It is hard to figure it out sheathed in pics.

'Good man' is arguable :p I want to find a way to put my niece and nephews into the name because they're right up there with my dog as the most important beings on the planet for me but that just doesn't work with a name!

Losing people is a strange thing. I had a crazy knife nut uncle who loved me very much and a crazy leatherworker uncle who loved me very much. They tried hard to get me to appreciate what they were doing and I didn't get on board. I can't even imagine how much I lost by not sitting at their feet and learning everything I could. I retained enough to want to get back at it when they were gone though and I feel like every time I turn out a piece of leather or a knife I'm connecting with them. I don't think I'll ever make what they wanted to make or anything but it is a tether to people gone too soon. For me. When you think about it, thinking is stupid sometimes.

Oh, Casino.. it's weird if you aren't sharking something from underneath my feet, quit being nice, I don't know how to reciprocate :p.

Here!

Here's my thing with a beautiful Jou'Fuu sheath. Buddy's Bushboot and sheath next to the one I bought with a Jou'Fuu slip sheath.

I've got too much length but I really want to get my image thing in there, while having a bomb proof 8-9oz sheath with some soul.

It's a stupid narrow frame to get the imagery in there. Kinda skews a lot of plans.

I'm a jackass, quoted you and rambled on about something else. The sheathed knife is a Bushboot. Sorry!

No worries. Bud does nice work. Could not see the curvature of the handle, and I was going on what appeared to be the ratio of the handle to blade along with the apparent blade shape. I should quit guessing when there is no reference for size.
