SwissChamp XAVT to those of you curious

The SwissChamp XAVT arrived today. Its Model 1.6795.xavt. This model came with 15 different bit sizes. I was expecting 8 because I had not previously found alternative Victorinox factorty bit sizes relative to the Cybertools.

I had figured that the Atimeter uses the same battery as does the LED's two; it does (they all use the CR1225). I've never seen a similar handle finish on any other Victorinox; its slip resistant and friendly. The XAVT weighs about 12ounces - for comparison my SwissTool weighs about 10 ounces and with the Victorinox rachet, bits and the case the SwissTool weighs about 15.5 ounces. In regard to weight, I personally had no problems using the XAVT.

First XAVT job: fixed the atenna on my shortwave. Then used it to change the clip position on the Griptillion. The LED is surprisingly bright and great to have handy. (I particularly liked the way it locked in the on position.) Lots of other neat tools, that I don't think Victorinox places on very many other SAKs, including the watch opener, pharmaceutical spatula, pruning blade, the 18mm 5X magnifying lense, the alarm and the match striker.

Discovered (at DreamHawk's recommendation) and joined SOSAKONLINE.COM - found that its loaded with well researched SAK articles.

Ya SOSAK is awesome man, I'm a junky now lol. Glad to see that there's at least one other guy that's crazy enough to carry and use the XAVT.

You have some good info there that I didn't consider such as battery size and weight in comparison, great job and very observant.

I've found that the other digital display models have one or two of the 4 features offered on the XAVT. I think one model offers the same on the digital side and it is the traveller? I think...Traveller doesn't have the bit set on it though which is a huge negative for me. The XAVT seems to be just perfect accompanied by a small pen knife or the like. I carry my BM42 or Vic gardener on the side. I've been EDC'ing it the entire week and am really enjoying the plethora of options.

I just wrote Victorinox directly to find out if any of their new Micro 4mm bits (sizes Slotted 3X1, Slotted 4X1, Torx 6, Hex 1.2, Hex 1.5 & Hex 2.5) might be available for sale. I would like to have a set for the Cybertool.

I have not been able to find them for sale at any of the stores that carry Victorinox parts and accessories, and they are not listed in Victorinox's comprehensive product catalog.

UPDATE: The German made 4mm Micro bits do not fit any of the Cybertools or any of the other Victorinox wrenches for the 4mm Micro tool bits (i.e. the tools that have the plastic pop-up cases to hold 6 bits). They are too small (in other words, they are unfortunately in the Europeon metric size w/o ball bearing - they are too small for the Cybertool bit wrench). The Cybertool wrenchs require a ball bearing to stay put, and the Wiha do not have a ball bearing. When you place any of the Wiha 4mm Micro bits in the Cybertool wrench, they just falls out when you turn the tool upside down. Likewise, the Wiha Micro Bit Extenders fit the Cybertool so loosly that they also just fall out of the Victorinox.

I believe that someone over on SOSAK at KF discovered a source for aftermarket bits that might interest you.

I've tried repeatedly over the years to join the SOSAK w/o success. Three times, after concerted, determined and lengthy efforts to join, I was sure I had, only to later learn that I had not. I'm 99% sure that the failure in this endever is due to pilot error, but even more convinced that joining is beyond my limited technical ability. Having given up trying to join what ever SOSAK is, I've returned to my own trial and error method (mostly error) of learning about SAKs.

Is there some way that I can help? For example, were you successful in joining KnifeForums but not the SOSAK forum? If so, I can mention your hassles to the SOSAK mod and ask him to help you.

Yes, I'm a member of the Knifeforums, and have made an application on the SOSAK special new member thread, but nothing ever happens (that I am aware of) to indicate that I'm a member of the SOSAK. Is there a special thread on the forum that then becomes available after becomming a member? If so, where is it. All I know is that searches for almost all SAK type items do not work on that site using my computer. Over the years' I registered on the SOSAK.com website, thinking that maybe that is a way of being able to access the special SOSAK website, but that does not work either. I have no idea of what to expect if I were accepted, or how to confirm membership. Again, all I know is that what ever I do, I cannot access information such as, by way of example, the source of aftermarket 4mm "Micro" bits that might fit the XAVT and the Cybertools or the Victorinox factory part number for the new Hex 1.2 bit. Tim, I appreciate your help and very much wish to join, and think it would be helpful to the SOSAK to be aware of this.

Please PT me over on KF and I'll pass on the info to the moderator. My handle there is TColling (like it is here).

Thanks,
Tim
