I have had a hankering for a Victorinox Fieldmaster lately, and I’m not sure if I should indulge it or not.

Arguments for buying a Victorinox Fieldmaster:
  1. It seems kinda cool.
  2. I can afford it.
  3. I deserve a treat now and then.
  4. Swiss army knives are cultural icons.
  5. It would be fun to fool around with when camping.
  6. I never had an SAK before.
  7. Of the SAK options, it seems like the best combination of tools.
Arguments against buying a Victorinox Fieldmaster:
  1. In all the years I spent doing outdoor activities I never actually needed one, so why now?
  2. $40 bucks would be better spent on charity.
  3. I have too many knives already.
  4. I probably won’t actually carry it day to day, since I seemed to have settled on my EDC.
  5. I shouldn’t let the internet influence my purchasing decisions.
  6. Many of my previous knife cravings have eventually faded without being fulfilled.
  7. Never pictured myself as a Swiss army knife kind of guy.
Thoughts?

Just get it. You can't go wrong with any SAK. I'm about at #60 with mine. They just seem to multiply rapidly.
If you get another SAK, don't leave them alone together. While I've never seen them actually mate,
I'm sure they must. Ever time I open my box of SAKs, there's more of them ;)

I recently brought a SAK walker. It was cheap £17.00.
I got it as it had a saw blade on it, and I noticed how much my 8 year old son used the saw on his multi tool when out in the woods.
I didn’t expect to carry it much , but it turns out it gets carried more than any other knife now.
I don’t love it like some of my knives ,but it’s just so damned useful 🤔🤔🤔

I bought that model as well as its the smallest and lightest with a saw.

Then you can pair it with a regular knife if you like plus you then have a spare clean blade.

win,win.

Of course I have at least 20 models as well.

Are you in the UK?

What you will find is you will use it and probably buy even more.

I like the alox farmer if I am taking just one tool outdoors.

The farmer X has scissors as well as a saw but is bigger of course.

I like the cellidor models around the house/urban use.

Although I STILL haven't purchased a Fieldmaster, when I tried a few years ago to decide what was the SAK with the best combination of tools for me, the Fieldmaster was my conclusion. (I've obtained most of my SAKs preowned at a local gun and knife show, which would be my first choice for getting a Fieldmaster, but I haven't gone to a show in 2 years because of COVID; missing another show in town today, with new case numbers for COVID now higher than they've ever been!)

There's only one way to find out if you're a Swiss Army Knife guy.

Felix Immler has a lot of fun videos around the SAK.

I went with the Huntsman which is the Fieldmaster with the corkscrew as opposed to the Philips screwdriver.

If I think a saw will be helpful, I'll take that or a Farmer.

As for the best combination for my everyday needs and more comfortable pocket carry, the Climber is my choice.

Buy it, or look for a good used one. It will make a great travel companion to keep in a pack or vehicle if you don’t actually carry it on you. Sometimes things need fixing or adjusting and it’s just a convenient little item to have nearby. As far as camping goes, it should be illegal not to have a SAK when you’re camping….you wouldn’t want to break the law, would you??:rolleyes::rolleyes:
