Has anybody out there ever dealt with a Mr. Ted Wood, from Clarkston, Michigan? He contacted me back in May of this year to purchase a Blackjack Chestnut Hunter. He actually pretended to be his wife Lori during the deal.

I had heard of his reputation before, and if I knew it was him, I would not have done business with him. He got my name from a similar knife that I came in second place on an Ebay auction. He said it was just like the one I bid on, and that one was mint in the box. I emailed him to verify the condition of the knife. He replied that "all of my knives are nice." I took the bait and sent him the $170 for a "nice" knife.

When I finally received it, it had rust on the blade to include a pencil dot size rust pit, the etchings were extremely faint, and there were scratches on the blade. I asked for a refund of my money since I was not happy with the knife. After numerous emails from him telling me to buff out the blade. I had to reply several times and explain that if that was what one of his "nice" knives were like, I wanted no part of it. He finally agreed to my sending the knife back and he would "make it right".

I mailed the knife back to him by certified mail, and to this day, I still have not received my refund! He even sold that exact same knife again on Ebay! I am fairly sure that selling the same knife twice is considered a crime in most states.

Ted claims to have a knife store in or near Clarkston, Michigan. Has anybody ever been there? I was wondering if this case would be considered mail fraud, since he used the postal service to rip me off? Ted currently has 2 negative feedback comments on Ebay from people who sent him money and received no knife. I found out that Ted was suspended at least once before from Ebay under the name "trwoods".

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get my money? I called his local police department, and they would not take a complaint over the phone. I live in Kansas. I will file a mail fraud complaint with the postal service. I have all the emails from him an to him for proof that he promised several times to send me the refund.

I will not deal with this guy again!:barf:

hmm, what I'd do is the following:

1) COntact Safe Harbor at ebay, to complain,
they're not supposed to sell something "On the side", and they didn't refind your money.

2) Send a return receipt letter asking for your money, give them 10 days.

3) After 10 Days, if no deal contact postmaster and file a postal complaint.

For me, anyone that contacts me out of the blue wanting me to buy something sets off the sleaze alarm bell.

I live in MI and I've dealt with Ted Wood of Clarkston. It was an experience I'm doing my best to forget, including selling off the knives I bought from him at a fat loss. I'd say there is a 99% chance that where there is smoke there's fire... i.e., you aren't the only one that Ted Wood did this to.

It seems like you are doing the right things. Let me know if there is something I can do to help. Clarkston is less than an hour from me.

How about going over to visit Ted and pummeling him into blind unconsciousness? Sounds like Ted needs a good old fashioned "Blanket Party"!

Guys,

We've had one experience with the esteemed Mr. Wood, and it was a very bad experience indeed!

We've bought and sold some 200 odd high quality knives over the last 2 years, (and other than that a$$ MDBlades that left us our only negative on ebay, because we left him a nuetral for selling us a "mint" RMK that HAD been resharpened), TRWood aka knifeman666 was the absolute worst!

He had two very rare A/F daggers on knifeauction, a Yancy and a Harsey, and he was willing to trade for RMK's. I asked the "Michigan boys" about him, and the responses were all the same, "He's bad news Mel, stay away from that prick..."

Well, live and learn I say, so I sent off a dead mint SS/NS/BM #1-7 with a Black sheath, a dead mint #25-6, and a US Postal M/O for $300.....and I waited, and I waited, and I waited!

Finally, two weeks later I get an email from this a$$hole that he had received my knives, and that they were sh*t....he had to "give them away" he said....and I'd be lucky to ever see anything from him.

Lucky for me, I know the folks at the post office pretty well after seeing them all 2-3 times a week for over a year...and I know the postal inspector on a first name basis...I complain!

A few days go by and I get an email from "Deadwood" stating that the knives were on the way, and he'd only been "joking"...What an A$$HOLE!!!!

And I waited, and I waited, and I waited! Another call to the local Postal Inspector...I want to file charges now!

Another email from "Deadwood"..."I sent them insured, here is the number...

So back to the post office I go...and for an hour we look...yes, the package had gotten there...but had somehow made it into the "dead" package pile....ya wanna know why? Do ya really? Listen to this then!

...That prick "Deadwood" had sent it from his place, with out putting my full address on it...just my name and zipcode, and he'd sent it via USPS in a freaking FEDEX box!!!!

The knives were alright, not mint like he said, but nicer that I'd seen. Nonetheless, he's a prick!

I sent him a flaming email, and his response? "So, you're a funny guy huh? Well, who's laughing now? HAHAHA T.R. Wood"

God as my witness, I hope the bastid strokes out tomorrow....and stops ripping people off in the mean time!

I was high bidder on ebay auction for a rare middle east dagger. I sent the $150.00 which included shipping, and that was the last I heard from the S.O.B. I have since logged a complaint with ebay about this fraud, and thanks to one of the other victums I have also notified the Attorney General Of Michigan. This clown is a real piece of work that I'm sure a Louieville slugger would cure right away. It's a shame that thieves like him can put a bad taste in your mouth, but don't let him ruin it for every other honest trader out there. All we can do is alert everyone else to the bum so that others will not be victims to this bum. Who knows maybe we can meet up with him some day and show him some good old fashion western justice.ALL FUTURE BUYERS BEWARE OF THIS SON OF A BITCH. Vince Faraci (waiting for my payback).

Wow! But what do you guys really think of Ted;)

It seems like I am not alone in my troubles with Ted. And he told me I was the only one to ever be unhappy with one of his knives! Me thinks he lied to me.

I also found out something interesting last night. In my original post I mentiond that Ted sold the knife that I returned to him to someone else on Ebay. I contacted that person to see if he received the knife, as Ted told me that he still had it. That auction ended on 19 July. Guess what?... Yep, that person never got the knife either!! Let's see... Ted sold the knife twice and still has the knife. That has to be illegal in most states.

It is a shame there is someone like Ted in the knife community. I have been collecting knives for about 10 years and he is the first bad experience I have run into. Ted needs to be stopped. Hopefully, he will get what he deserves.

Danbo - I really like your suggestion about the Blanket Party! It would almost be worth the trip to Michigan from Kansas!

I have filed a report on the Postal Mail Fraud website, and with the Michigan Attorney General's office. Hopefully, if they get enough complaints they will shut Ted down. I also reported him to Ebay's Safeharbor for contacting people and making deals outside of Ebay.

^bttt

Just because the scab was picked, I really don't like this phuck, and I want the world to know it!

I dunno, my inbred Appalachian "Hatfield and McCoy" roots I guess...

Update: Looks like "Knifeman666" (AKA Ted Wood) is no longer a registered member of Ebay. That is twice he has been suspended from Ebay that I know of. I wonder if all the people who never got their knives from him had anything to do with that?;)

Also, the Michigan Attorney General's Office is on his trail. :)

I also found out from a reliable source that some of the Blackjack knives purchased by Ted from the former owner of Blackjack Knives were never paid for by Ted! Ted complains about all the money he has tied up in his Blackjacks, but he five-fingered discounted some of them!

Anybody else have some Ted stories to share? This gets more interesting all the time!

I'd like to hear the story of somebody tying him up to a tree and hitting golf balls at him from about 25 ft away instead.

A few months ago ted wood offered a damascus Trailguide copy marked "prototype" for sale on e-bay. The knife was made by Mark Nevling of Burr Oak knives. It was not a Blackjack knife and Blackjack had nothing to do with making the knife. Mark told me that he never etched the word "prototype" onto the blade. After the Blackjack company liquidated, somehow the TG copy ended up in ted wood's hands. Jason Stewart, son of the former owner of Blackjack, saw this damascus TG copy and verified that it was made exclusively by Mark Nevling, and that it had NOT been etched "prototype" in the Blackjack shop. How did this knife, still marked with the Burr Oak trademark, become etched "prototype" after falling into ted wood's hands? More information exists but I'll leave it at that. Maybe this is something the Michigan A.G. would be interested in?!

The irony is that etching "prototype" onto a Blackjack is hardly worth the effort. There are just too many BJ prototypes to ever legitimately use the word "rare" with any of them. ted wood went to a lot of effort to add $50 value (if that much) to the selling price of the Burr Oak Trailguide copy!!! Hopefully his efforts do nothing more than land him in hot water with the Michigan A.G.!!!

I've never met the fellow so it is hard for me to form a First hand conclusion but from what I've heard, this fellow is bad news and should be avoided.

It looks like Ted received a note from the MI Attorney General on my behalf. He sent me an email and was annoyed to say the least. He has also seen the posts in this thread, and I invited him to log in and tell his side of the story. That should be interesting to say the least.

He wants to send the A.G. pictures of the knife he sold me. I am not sure why, as my complaint is that he owes me money, not that he sold me a POS knife. I returned the knife, he kept it and never sent my money back. That is a fine point that Ted doesn't understand and doesn't think is wrong. He also had the nerve to sell that same knife to another person and keep his money too. Ted apparently doesn't think there is anything wrong with that either. In a way I pity him. Ted has no idea what truth is. Ted would choke on the truth.

I thought I would save Ted the trouble of looking for pictures of the knife and post them here. I took them before I sent the knife back to Ted for my refund. Somehow I knew I would need them...

Note the faint etchings, rust pit, scratches and staining all over the blade. I will admit that the handle and box were OK. Maybe I am too picky but, I have never seen a Blackjack knife in that bad of shape. I surely didn't want it in my collection.

Ted said this knife was "nice" before I sent him my money. I guess this is an example of what his "nice" knives look like. :barf
