Ted Wood -- Three Months, Still No Refund

Wolf,

Yes, it is a shame that Ted can get away with this for so long. I think he knows that most people won't go through all the trouble to file a civil case against him.

One of the very first steps I took with this matter was to call my local police dept. to see what could be done. They said since Ted lived in Michigan, it was out of their jurisdiction. I called the local police dept. of Clarkston, MI and spoke with a detective there. He said he could not take a complaint over the phone, and I would have to come to Michigan to file a complaint against Teddy.

I live in Kansas, so I am trying all the other means of filing complaints first. I still may have to make a sidetrip to visit with his local police dept. about this matter, since I go to Indiana a couple times a year.

Ted has been unloading his Blackjacks at a reduced price from what he thought his "mint" knives were worth. I am only hoping that this forum has helped to spread the word about what a complete dirtball this person is.

In this MODERN world of magical technology, the line offered by a Law Enforcement agency that they CANNOT take a complaint over the phone, with subsequent evidentiary documents and photos faxed, scanned, uploaded, etc. is a sign of a LAZY Police agency. Second, the crime of Theft by deception takes place WHERE the deceptive act KNOWINGLY or PURPOSELY is alleged to have taken place. So, IF this initial sale generated via a phone or an E-mail from you at home to Ted in Michigan or wherever, YOU were decieved in YOUR home State. this type of crime, as a result of a US Supreme court Ruling CAN be initiated BY YOU in YOUR State and followed up by the LE Agency in Ted's State.
The investigation MOST certainly can begin, the issue of probable cause to effect an arrest formulated and THEN yes,you might have to make a side trip to swear out the signed document so that a Warrant for Ted's arrest can be made.
Complicated? No, this crime crossed State lines and is a FEDERAL Offense. The FBI maintains Jurisdiction. Call them if the LOCALS do not wish to serve and protect. I would have NEVER tolerated a "we cannot help you response"......wolf

I live in Michigan, and have been interested in sharp pointy things for a number of years now. While not active around the BF, I've had some time to try to "catch up" with the goings on. Imagine my chagrin to see this thread.

I've never met, run across, or otherwise dealt with the jalamo, but I hope this helps the cause.

Now, go get `em, guys, and don't stop til his scrote is hanging on a pike.

I am NOT a Lawyer. I do not profess to have EVERY answer. I cannot tell you that my knowledge of the Law, and my very strong desire to see justice served has been 100 percent effective. WHAT I can offer is being a royal pain in the butt to ANY Law Enforcement agency that does NOT SERVE and protect. I have been burned for almost three grand. THAT is what brought me here to BFC. If the sh.itbag was not dead and STILL trying to CON the Big Man for a free ride to heaven, I would name him. But, he is now at that stage where it is PAYBACK time and he ain't got the pearly gates unlocked YET.:p :p :p
ANYONE, who has been screwed and is a VICTIM of the crime of Theft by deception is invited to E-mail me. I have alot of time on my hands, and no passion or mercy for thieves or Lazy police administrators. If you have been blown off by the jurisdiction crap, I would be more than happy, hell, I would love to tap-dance with some Gold badge who did not want to help a good citizen get what is RIGHTFULLY his and screw some POS crook to the wall, and hang his KNUTTS from the flagpole.:D No promises of success, but we would sure make life miserable for folks like Teddy the crook Woods......Ira

Don,

Thanks a million for Ted's business name! I filed a report with Michigan's BBB last night. The address you gave was the same as the one he used to steal my money. He entered into the deal by pretending to be his wife Lori Wood and that was how the knife was originally sent. He never gave me his business name. Ted claimed to have moved his knife business, but that may be just another one of his lies. If he kept the same name, it should be easy to find him.

Ira,

Thank you for your advice! I will take my case to the local authorities again. I originally spoke to one of them on the phone, but a visit is in order. I should have a pretty good case, with all the emails, money order stub, postal reciept and even this forum as evidence of Ted's history of deceit. I will let you all know how it goes with them.

Whalen,

It may not be of much use to your case, but if needed, I'll write a formal letter outlining the circumstances of my transaction with the esteemed Mr. Wood.

Inlight of the comments that I've posted here, in my not be in your best interest to present my letter with your case, but my offer holds.

Email me if, and only if, you're asked to provide corroborating statements from others that have dealt with Mr. Wood.

Heck, I'll even use a spell checker...lol ;)

Wolf,

Thanks for your advice.

I made a trip to the local law enforcement agency and filled a complaint against Teddy. I will have to mail the complaint along with copies of my supporting documents to Clarkston, Michigan. The police there may actually look into this matter. Hopefully, when the police start knocking on Ted's door, he will get a hint. I would like to give him a clue with a 2X4 upside the head.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go buy more needles for my 'teddy wood' Voodoo doll...lol ;)

Glad to see LE is going to help. just keep a small fire held to their "toes". A Good C.L.E.O. wants to sincerely serve the citizenry. A nice "thank you note" now will go miles towards an AIMING TO PLEASE attitude.;)
With some diligence, and great supporting evidence which I understand exist, Teddy will be standing before the black-robed King, proclaiming, in his Best O.J. voice: "I am NOT guilty" However, this time...that and a dime, will land Teddy in the can:D :D Good luck, and if you need a hand, my offer lays on the table......wolf

Thank you for the warning about this guy.
He's one of the many "reasons" I don't like E-bay.
Hear that too many people get screwed like this on Ebay.
E-bay is a bad place to buy most things anyways, I think.

As for this...

Where's is Clarkston, near Detroit, or is it more near the Northwestern Ohio border?
If he is, I plan to vist him someday soon for you guys, after the holidays.

P.S.: I always have a blanket in my trunk. :D

Update on the Deadwood story:

After visiting the local police department, they suggested that I write Teddy a letter at the address listed above, signature required, explaining that I was going to report the theft of my money to the Clarkston, MI police if he did not send my money by 15 Jan 02. The police officer I spoke to seemed to think that since there was no deadline given for returning my money, there has not been a crime committed yet. The letter was undeliverable and is waiting for pickup at the Clarkston post office. I think ole Teddy moved, and left no forwarding address. Somehow that doesn't surprise me, I think he owes several people some money and he may be laying low.

Tomorrow, I will forward the information that I have on him to the police in Clarkston, MI and they should be able to find Ted Wood and do something with him.

Clarkston is near Detroit, MI. Ole Teddy may be trying to peddle his wares somewhere in that area at a new location, but I have no information on the address of the new store. I have heard that he alos sells knives at Michigan knife shows. If you run across this puke, beware! He enjoys stealing money and cannot be trusted.:barf:

When someone enters into a sales agreement, there is an EXPECTATION OF PAYMENT with a REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME. If this were under 45 days, I MIGHT BUY THAT. BUT, there is a clear attempt to deprive you of your money PERMANENTLY; this is THEFT.
If you have a knife for sale. I wish to buy it. WE AGREE to the cash terms and the knife is shipped, the fact that I did not specify a time-period from which PAYMENT MUST be recieved DOES NOT stop this from becoming CRIMINAL.
HELP ME ATTORNEYS!!!!! I know you know this BETTER than I. The important issue here is INTENT. To determine Ted's INTENT, Law Enforcement begins an I-N-V-E-S-T-I-G-A-T-I-O-N. After review of statements, telephonic interviews, conversation with victims, documents, EVIDENCE, the POLICE can then determine that TED did knowingly deceive you for the purpose of committing the crime of THEFT therein.

The excuse provided you is LAME. This is either one LAZY Agency, or one that only cares about the "hot crimes". They certainly may be working at maximum levels for the resources they have, BUT HONESTY IS FREE. The more appropriate answer should have been: Yes sir, you are the victim of a crime, but we are out straight, do NOT have the resources, but we SHALL try to assist you as MUCH as possible"

To OFFER an answer like the above is just pure political FODDER. LET ME AT one of the GOLD BADGES!!!!! :p :p :( :) Ira

I will be atttending the Wolverine knife show in Novi, MI in late January. It's the largest knife show in the area. I doubt seriously that I'll see ted wood in attendance. A local knifemaker, who frequents the knife shows in the area, told me that ted wood is well-known in Michigan as someone not to be trusted. He went on to say that when ted sets up at a local knife show, that hardly anyone stops by ted's table, and when someone stops that it's not for long. Screwing people over is a way of life for this guy.

I will take a digital camera to the Wolverine show just in case I see this con-artist thief. You guys will get a kick out of how well ted's appearance match his criminal behavior.

Yep,I know Ted.I sell my tactical gear at approx 36 gun shows a year in Indiana and surrounding states. And though I am not a BlackJack fan,I have SOLD him some rare Mamba's that I bought at the Indy 1500 show years ago from the Stewart's.He wanted to pay me with a check.I told him no way.I wanted cash.He told me he didn't carry that kind of money with him.Well,I told him that I was going to put them back in my safe and he said that he 'would some how scrounge up the money'. Shoot! He had it all the time in his pocket.I talked to David McWhorter(gun clip & magazine dealer from Michigan) that said his checks were no good anyhoo.Whew!Sooo close to getting burned.BTW-this transaction took place last year at the Ft.Wayne gun show at the War Memorial Coliseum. So he WILL travel out-of-state to peddle his crap.Beware!
Big Wave Dave OUT:cool:

My department takes reports over the phone all the time. As a matter of fact about 50% of our reports are over the phone.

Keep in mind that it is highly unlikely that he will be extradited for this offense.

From WHAT I have read, TEDDY likes to Travel. Being in the NCIC system and ending up in one of the States that Teddy has been a "bad boy" in will NOT require extradition.
Sadly though, you are very correct. LE no longer can afford to chase ALL the bad guys. But guys like TEDDY seem to END UP in States' holding ACTIVE Warrants for HIS ARREST!!!!:) :)

Wolfmann making these fools work for their easy money! I love it! GB&U is getting to be one of the more intersting places here on BF!

I would like to thank you all for your support and advice in this deal gone bad with Ted Wood. Wolf, I really appreciate your helpfulness in this matter and knowledge on how the police are supposed to handle a theft.

I have tried an Attorney General complaint, a postal fraud complaint and a BBB complaint. None of these organizations has pursuaded Ted to give back the money he stole from me. I have tried to give Ted every chance to make good on his promise to make it right with me. It is now 7 months since the deal started, and that is long enough.

Ted has it in his twisted mind that he owes me nothing. He may feel that since I complained to these authorities after 3 months of waiting, that he deserves to keep my money. I really don't know or care what his reasons for theft are, but the Clarkston police should be able to find out.

Today I called Mr. Wood to give him one more chance to send my money before I forward my complaint to the Clarkston, MI police. I asked him how my refund was going and he mumbled something about all the trouble I have caused him and where do I THINK the money is?... and then he hung up on me! What a complete dirtball!

Ted will deserve whatever comes of this. He has made the choice, he will have to be accountable for his actions. I gave him every chance to fork over my money, he should have sent it as soon as he received the knife, back in June.

I am still in the process of making copies of all the pertinent documents dealing with this and will send them to the Clarkston Police Department for their review. I will keep you all posted on what they say.
