I spent the evening testing out one of my new knives by putting it through some basic fire making. Thanks for looking!

Clearing a pesky branch out of the path. It was about 1 1/2" around. Now it's firewood.

The key to a good fire, proper prep.

Thanks for posting this. :)

What's the blade thickness, by the way? Do you distal taper your knives at all?

Brad

Great looking knife! And a beast of a firesteel you got there!

Yep, it's a big one. 6" x 3/8"

No, I don't taper my larger blades at all so they keep a little more mass at the end for chopping. I do taper my smaller knives a little though. This one is 3/16" thick.

Thanks guys!

Good looking blade.

That firesteel is the same size as the one I have, but it looks so much bigger for some reason.

That is a sweet big blade. Sort of off topic, bug how do you do that cross hatching? It looks great, and functional.

It's actually quite simple.

I start by taking a ruler and a pencil to lat out the cuts. Then I use the edge of a triangle file to cut along the lines, finish by sanding over the cuts with some 400 grit sand paper and it's done.

Maybe I can post a quick tutorial on the process in the near future.

Thanks guys!

Thanks  I really like your knives, and I think that checkering is part of the reason. I have seen pics of old mountain man knives and they sometimes had something like that cut into the handle, it really appeals to me.

Are you done with mine yet? :D

Done with what yet?

Actually I can't wait to get started on it. I think you guys are going to like this knife, so keep your eyes open for it in about a month..

Thanks Iz!

That means a lot coming from a great knife maker such as yourself.

Just a simple pouch sheath. The ones I make now are slightly darker.
