Review The all new REK Ember (mildly graphic content -hunting)

A few more tidbits for ya’ll...hope you aren’t getting bored of this thread.

The Ember has been my companion in the bush lately...as my smaller carry...

It has also been my carry at work, and in the shop...reaching for it first when neccessary.

These are things I have covered already. I know it needs to be stropped and I wish I hadn’t been lazy about it...the Ember tagged along with me on a “bush chicken” hunt...and a fun one at that!!

I managed to tag a couple Ruffed Grouse last weekend and put the Ember to work. I must say...I should have stropped the blade before I headed out. I had to use the heel of the blade, which is still screaming sharp. The tip was still sharp, but not game cutting sharp. If anyone else has skinned/gutted, or otherwise removed meat from game, then you know a screaming sharp blade is ideal.

Because I could use the heel still, I managed to save the two tails for a “show and tell” for my nephews. :)

Today I plan on taking the scales off my Ember to see how the steel underneath is doing. Also gonna strop. Get off my butt and take the 40 seconds it takes. Haha.

Hope you all are rocking it this friday!
Keep ‘em sharp!

To be honest...havent decided yet. Haha. Either fried in garlic/butter on iron skillet, or smoked. Haha.

So work has literally been kicking my butt the last few weeks...I even planned to remove the Embers scales yesterday and flaked on it.
However, I did get off my lazy keester this morning for some work on a few blades I own.
I removed the scales from the Ember, and guess what...NADA! Zero corrosion of any kind. Not on the flats, not on the edges, not in the holes. Very, very seriously impressed with this M390. There was barely any dust under either. Just fantastic.
I am so impressed because, if you have been following this thread, I have held nothing back while using the Ember. It’s seen freshwater multiple times, and been sheathed wet. Just incredible.
I also hit the edge up on the strop today and it’s shaving sharp again. This one is staying on my belt.

Hope ya’ll get outside today and into nature.

That is incredible, looks like @JTknives did a great job on heat treat!!

Got out this weekend for a few good morning waterfowl hunts...they were successful. :) I love the rush and the challenge of outsmarting them. Our area isn’t a major flyway, so we work hard for our dinner. Haha.

The Ember was with me, but unfortunately I can’t give any insight or experience cleaning birds with it. I stropped it up before I headed out, but I used it during the hunt to cut some zipties and other things. The Ember lost its “hair-popping” sharpness, so it didn’t work as well as I was hoping...had to switch out to a couple other blades.

Enjoy these photos from the hunts!

Can’t stress it enough...Keep ‘em Sharp!

Great pics. I'm envious. I haven't been out bird hunting years. I often chased woodcock, grouse and ducks. Upland over dogs is my favorite way to go.

Long time since we’ve had a chat! Too long. Hope all is well.

Waterfowl is definitely my favorite. Upland comes second. Upland over dogs is always a good time if you have great dogs. :)
Thanks for posting here. It’s good to have you around. :D

Well, I’ve got a cool little review here today...

I received a proto REK Ember sheath for testing a few days ago from Bill duramax duramax He made my particular test piece from 9-10oz English bridle burgundy leather. It is a stout sheath. Bill wet molded the sheath to the Embers contours and retention is excellent. I would not hesitate to carry this horizontally on my belt.

Bill’s stitching and finishing is great, and he does a very nice job rounding all the edges and wet shaping it to the contours of the handle of the Ember.

I added the clip myself, and have really enjoy where the knife and sheath sit in various positions.

This sheath has actually “disappeared” in the pockets I’ve carried it in, backpocket being the exception when sitting. I very much am a fan of this proto, and hope Bill continues to make these sheaths for REK’s Ember.

If you like what you see...contact Bill duramax duramax ...I’m sure he is gonna get even busier adding this offering to his fold. :)

Thank you, Bill, with much appreciation.

Update!!! Lol.

Well, It’s been a little while since I’ve posted here, and since there is still interest, I thought I would give an update.

This little blade comes to work with me everyday…and gets used a lot. Even when paired with other knives, I generally reach for the Ember 2.5 subconsciously.

I have not kept up the razor sharp edge, but continue to keep a working edge on it. I’ve sharpened it twice since it’s arrival, and both times because I broke the tip. You think I woulda learned not to pry the first time around!!!

Got the tip back to pointy, but now own an Ember 2.3 🤣😂🤣😂

Still no holds barred with this little blade. Scratches?…bring ‘em on! The cococarta scales have worn extremely well. They are a touch more polished now, but still has excellent purchase in use.

I am still carrying inverted (CM style) at work. During the weekends, I carry the compound grind Ember 2.5 horizontal at 11:00 with a leather strap I made for the kydex sheath.

I am still standing firm with my original review. This little blade performs well above its size. It is comfortable in hand, and stays sharp for a very long time.

It is still as sexy as day one…and even bugs can’t keep their mitts off it…

I am so impressed with this REK Knives REK Knives blade that I have a third on the way. Currently being “sheathed” by duramax duramax

If you are into small blades…grab one of these…you will not be disappointed.

Hope this quenched everyone’s thirst for an update, and remember…NO PRYING! 🤣😂🤦‍♂️

Thank you all for being interested…it is my pleasure!

Keep ‘em Sharp!

Here is a short clip showing the sharpness of the Ember 2.5. I needed to trim off the “fur” on these ends of some composite decking. The Ember also left a nice chamfer at the same time. :)

Nice writeup of a good looking and performing knife. I have not read a good review like this in a long time. Thank you for the effort as I know it takes a lot of time.

Thank you for the kind words. ☺️ I’m glad you enjoyed the read…or you are right, it would be a waste of time. Haha. 😁
