The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Hey Nathan,

I've came across this "fyi... we will have a Fat Bastard Field Knife pre-order in two weeks on the CPK sub." 😮

Will there be a signature version on them? maybe options like a swedge/non swedge versions? How thick we talking here? Fat Bastard sounds like over 1/4 in thickness.

Nathan, I have seen that you guys have discontinued the (bright) blue canvas ā€œmicartaā€ (exactly what you called it in the 2023 basic 5 pre-order), and there seems to be a small amount of hate for the stuff. Can you elaborate please?

I like this micarta. It is unique, I haven’t seen anything quite like it before, so curious what you guys don’t like. TIA!

If it is the Blue Ultrex Micarta it gums up belts something horrible, myself and a handful of maker friends all hate it. To bad as I do like blue.

My understanding is certain micartas use synthetic fibers to achieve specific colors.

Also, some micartas use an epoxy/resin that doesn’t darken/brown as much over time but has a much lower melting temp than the phenolic resin in standard colors.

Whatever is in there, the bright blue stuff melts and gunks up belts. Makers seem to hate working with it, unfortunately.

#notnathan but I don’t think CPK is grinding any of their micarta with belts, only CNC cutters. I do wonder, however, if buffing is possibly an issue.

ON TOP OF EVERYTHING ELSE…..

Are we getting a skinner next year? šŸ˜šŸ˜œ
Ummm…if you drive down, I’ll just let you borrow mine next season. I’ll probably be working while you’re out …well you know, killin’ shit…to eat. My fee would be 5 pounds of venison and a resharpenning. 😜
