Look at that! That's what Beckerism is all about. Getting kids out there and teaching them a skill they can really be proud of.

Thanks Ben! We try and take the kids out as much as we can. This year is going to be epic. We're gonna take a 2 day 2 night backpacking trip and haul all the kids with us. I don't know if that will be a blessing or a curse! lol

This has got to be the Best coated Big blade that I've seen!

Thanks for the quick stove response and the link...interesting reading. I appreciate the rocket stove feature and the disassembly design. From the prices on the link, though, that might be a little outside my price range:eek:. I do, however, have access to a laser cutter and scrap thin steel. Might be a winter DIY project:rolleyes:...

if you need a similar item, but cheaper, you can also look at the Emberlit. They run under $40, and mine lies flat in my pack, but assembles quickly and has no problem throwing some serious heat.

Hmmm... similar? Maybe, but there's some differences to the Emberlit that are worth mentioning imho...
Most important, the Core 4 can be setup as a gassification/rocket stove where the Emberlit is 'just a box' to contain your sticks on fire and put your kettle on. (the Emberlit is also a great stove, don't get me wrong here)
You can setup the Core 4 as simple as an Emberlit stove, but I prefer a more elegant setup in gassification mode.
Here's a pic of how it looks inside; notice all walls are double so the not yet burned gasses and smoke are lead back into the flame resulting in a hotter more powerful flame.

Here you can see the Core 4 and the Emberlit burn next to eachother to see the difference

Video from forum member @AngryDaddyBird

Then the Core 4 can also be setup with just 3 walls (making it a Core3 :) ) for ultra light packing.

Last difference I'll mention... there's extension pieces allowing to use Esbit and Trangia burners.

I mean... no doubt, the Core 4 is the bigger, badder, more effective one that we'd all like.
I was just thinking if someone liked the "pop the walls together and burn stuff in it" kind of stove, the Emberlit is a well thought out design and priced very reasonably.

That said, I do plan to get a Core 4 in the future because I'm totally sold on the superior design and feel it's well worth it (and frankly, they're just not THAT much more expensive, for the big upgrade in materials and design).

Lol... it's the BK-9 of packable wood stoves :D
You'll probably enjoy this thread.
