The Les George Knives Thread

Alright, gents. As promised - the piece I traded for:

Les George custom Super FM-1:

11.125" OAL
5" blade
12.95 oz

For size reference, here it is next to a regular FM-1 ( 😆 ):

And here it is next to a Rockeye (a big knife!) and a VECP:

I'll see if I can convince ccsmith449 ccsmith449 to get some proper shots of it, but this was the best I could do during my toddler's nap time today. Les didn't make many of these, so I'm honored to finally own one. The action is remarkably smooth for a monster, and, more importantly, it's so wonderfully absurd that it fills me with glee every time I handle it. I hope everyone's weekend is going well!

Could I get a little feedback from people in the know. I’ve been stuck with analysis paralysis on which model to get as my first…had finally decided on the MK3 but now just noticed the Servo and I’m back to square one! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Can someone who has both school me on the pluses and minuses of each please?

The servo is a fantastic flipper on bearings, the MK3 is on washers and is a thumbdisc. Both have insane action. My opinion is that both should be experienced, so one then the other. My personal preference is the stonewash blade version of the MK3, but they are all great.

I’d recommend going with a mk3 first for 2 reasons. It’s a LG made by Les and it may be the best example of what he accomplishes on pb washers. Not to mention it’s incredible in the hand and the pocket considering it’s a large blade. Nothing against the servo though, it’s a win win situation.

To keep w/ Necroanax Necroanax ‘s theme of monster old knives, this exceptionally well preserved beauty just landed this morning…

The Les George / Liong Mah “Basic” - designed by Liong and made by Les back in 2009! I believe there are 6 of these total.

While it shares many similar dimensions to Les’ other custom models (4” blade, 5” handle, 9” OAL), it is noticeably more stout. It’s 8oz and sports a nearly 1/4” blade stock!

The action on nylon washers is surprisingly smooth and the ergos are stellar. Just a really fun and unique piece from the “stone ages” as Les likes to say 😆
