The Les George Knives Thread

I almost snagged that VECP that Stringjam7 Stringjam7 ended up with, but by the time I thought about it a bit and came back to call dibs it was spoken for! Still carrying my Talos daily and loving it.

As a fan of flippers, I do really like the look of the Defiant 7 Servo as well. Is that on bearings or washers? I know it's a partnership between LG and Nichols...does anyone know who does what, or if they setup a new shop for Defiant 7 that runs independently?

With the exception of some much older knives such as the Cerberus, Les' flippers are on bearings. In general flipper = bearings and thumbstuds = washers.

Defiant7 is a funny one now that they are revamping the company. Les and Chad are next door neighbors. Literally. From my understanding Les did the knife making. I honestly do not know what Chad's involvement was other than joint marketing, financing and making badass steel for their knives.

Les' only employee Parker, along w/ Chad's son and one other young man are getting ready to graduate machining school (this year I believe if they haven't already!) and take over the reigns at D7. Les is still sharpening all the blades for D7 as well as overseeing all aspects of production while the new guys get into the swing of things, so he is heavily involved for the time being.

Les and Chad bought a brand new CNC machine in July/August, which I have to imagine is being used for both D7 as well as GKI projects. When Necroanax Necroanax and I spoke with Les at CanCon he said that the D7 boys were running wide open, even without him there, machining blades for a special project D7 is working on for a dealer. Huge things to come from D7!

I'm sure I'm missing something but hope this helps clarify a little!

Thanks for the info!

There’s a cool servo with wood milling for sale on the fb group right now.

Which group? I'm in the George Knives group that Les asked for no B/S/T but a lot of selling/trading groups aren't accepting me yet because I only made my account a little over a month ago.

Les George knife sales. Would you like me to contact the seller and see if he’s on bf?

Yeah if you don't mind that would be great.

edit: If I search "Les George knife sales" on Facebook and get no matching results does that mean the group blocked me? I tried to join right after joining Facebook, was denied, and requested to join again after my account was a month old. Making a Facebook for the knife groups has been a total bust so far because none of the groups accept new accounts with no activity.

Well thanks to some helpful and enabling members here I have a Servo on the way!
Whew. You saved me. I was pretty torn over that one. Love the "woody" pattern and was very reasonably priced. If you like flippers, I am confident you are going to enjoy.

I've always liked the wood pattern LG's and have historically been a flipper fan. Lately as I gravitate back towards heavy-duty/overbuilt knives I find myself less interested in flippers with bearings, but my recent affair with my Talos has me wanting more Les George so his flippers are very intriguing.

Has anyone here swapped Skiff bearings or thick washers into a Servo?

I put skiffs on my Myna and also ordered the thick washers but haven’t installed them. I found the skiff washers to feel much smoother but not much more drop shutty than the stock ones. I definitely think they’re worth it for the smoother feel.

I put Skiffs in just about any knife they fit in...they're cheap enough and more often than not I think they feel better than the stock bearings in one way or another.

New to the forum and there seems to be a big LG following here! Had a question for you all after getting my first LG knife, a diamond patterned reverse tanto Myna.

It seems the lock bar detent is making a visible line on the blade that isn’t obscured by the lock side scale of the knife. Also the hole in the blade for the detent is also visible above the lock side scale. Is this normal for a LG knife? Seems like a pretty bad design and I was curious if this is normal? A little frustrated by my first pick up.

Not my knife but similar mark and the detent hole on mine seems a little more visible.

Agreed, after putting them on the Myna, I’ve installed them on all my bearing knives. Well worth it for the smooth feeling. Makes them feel a little more hydraulic like washers.

Yes, that’s normal on his designs. I agree that’s not ideal but has never really bothered me.

Here is a shot of my VECP. The detent hole is just barely visible on this model as well, functionality is not affected and he has been making the VECP for many years.PXL_20241204_193358908.jpg

Thanks for the fast replies! It does make me a little disappointed though. The detent hole doesn’t bother me as much as the very noticeable marking on the blade that looks like crap.

I think the usefulness of that blade design and the incredible ergonomics far outweigh the negatives. The Myna has become an all time favorite of mine. And surpasses the talos for best new knife of the year from Les imo. I understand if it’s a pet peeve of yours or fit n finish is of the utmost importance to you. On the bright side it’s not on the show side.

This is mine, personally it’s barely noticeable unless looking for it. Had to hold it a certain way in the light to get a pic of it. But if it bothers ya you can’t unsee it I suppose.
