Dave Really absorbing pictures thank you. Particularly drawn to the display of Sunday Knives and that Coffin Bolster Crown Pen, a fascinating knife crying out for a re-make! Could you say what sort of size they were please?

And those display cabinets with some gnarlicious looking Stag in there, that HUGE lockback on the left...:D

Many thanks for all the pix for those of us in Europe thousands of kilometres away and beyond reach, a lifeline of dreams:thumbup::thumbup:

Regards, Will

Thanks for bailin me out Dan!!
Your close up shots came out Great! Mine were distorted from the light off the glass.
You sure picked out some beautiful knives to take home!!
Will, the Coffin Bolster knives were in the 3 1/2" range. The Dress knives were mostly smaller but some ranged up close to 4" closed, maybe 3 3/4"

Dave

Thanks for all the phenomenal photos, folks!:thumbup:

Dave, when I saw this shot, a line from the movie "Field of Dreams" popped into my head, when a dead baseball player says, "Is this heaven?" and Kevin Costner's character says, "No, it's Iowa!" I could imagine sometime making it to the show and seeing something like Dave's picture and asking if I'm in heaven and being told no it's the Oregon knife show! ;)

Here are the knives I purchased at the show. Top pic is 4 Keen Kutters and a Pal Cutlery Co which was modded by a member of another forum. Second pic is a Keen Kutter scout, a Kingston jack (gift from Charlie) and a Washington Jack. Third pic is a Schrade Cut Co, a Simmons whittler made in Germany and a Repeat Needham Bros.

Dan, congrats on each and every one of those beauties you acquired!:eek::cool: They're all fabulous and I haven't looked at them in detail yet, but the first thing that caught my eye was that killer shield on the Keen Kutter scout knife!!:cool:

The OKCA show was great this year. I took 2 displays down to the show. The Buck Custom Knives display and this year I added a display of knives made by my Grandfather who passed away in 1975.

These are knives he made and either kept or gave away to family and friends. A few of my family members loaned me the knives they had for me to display.

Most of them had some type of storage compartment for survival gear such as matches, firestarter, fishing line and hooks, and a couple even had a compass stored inside.

Most also had a story behind the knife as well as a name for the knife.

The Oregon Show just so happens to fall on Christine's (from GEC) Birthday every year. Last year we had Perry, a professional musician, with us to help sing happy to you. So this year about 4 of us were going to ask the man in charge to use the P.A. system to perhaps get a few more folks involved in our Happy B-day celebration. When the time came to gather, Dennis (the man in charge) told us he had a better idea! And by golly he did!!!
As it turns out there was a Bag Piper at the show......

And this was the look we got from Christine when she figured out what we were up to! ;)

Great lookin display gedlicks!
What a Great legacy for your family!!:cool:

Dave

Thank you very much Dave. My Father hurt his leg the day before the show and called to tell me he could not make it to the show. Sunday morning of the show he showed up although in a wheel chair.

He is too proud to have his picture taken of him in a wheel chair so he stood for a couple pictures. You can just make out the wheel chair just behind me.

The display of his fathers knives literally brought tears to his eyes. My Father is 85 and just lost his wife (my Mother) a couple weeks earlier.

The main reason I did this display this year is because I thought my Father or his brother (my Uncle) may not be around if I wait any longer. I built the display cases and the display the week before the show.

Wow, what an awesome display and what great history. I saw your pictures in the buck forum several days ago and spent quite a while looking at each one. I bet your dad was quite proud seeing them all together. Thanks for sharing.

There's a lot of love showing through that photo. What a great display of your family legacy!

Well, here are the pictures I promised to post a few days ago of the vintage folders I was able/fortunate to acquire this year. I have sold a lot of knives since the first of the year with the express purpose of using those proceeds to buy knives at the OKCA show this month. Each day after the show at the motel my dear wife would ask me with that laser stare but good naturedly "okay how much and how many! I would scramble for just the right words and say dear I am just repositioning capital from remember all those knives I have sold? Seemed to work Ha HA! Well, I was after Schrades for the most part and this show did not dissapoint at least on Friday dealer set up day. Unless you have been to this show you can't appreciate how completely overwhelming it is to be surrounded by so many primo vintage collectible knives and trying to decide which one(s) you can't live without with limited resources. Everywhere you turn the knives call out "look at me, no not him me--when will you ever see one as nice as me again" reverberating through your brain like a catchy tune that you cannot quit humming! Complete sensory visual overload and you surrender your wallet to one dealer after another and before you know it the day is over in this case Friday before the show even opens to the general public and you are nearly spent out. I loved every minute of this hunt and am quite pleased overall with the vintage folder examples I purchased though in a couple of cases I probably paid too much but overall I am quite pleased! Anyway enough of my blathering and rambling so on to the photos my collecting friends,

Top to bottom: Schrade Cut 2blade Hunter, Schrade Cut EE Jack, Shapleigh DE Swell Center Farmers Jack, Schrade (arched) Cut English Jack, Schrade Cut 3 blade camp/utility and Schrade Walden NY USA Stockman

Schrade Cut large spear Stockman, Schrade Walden NY Serpentine Jack, Keen Kutter 4 blade, NYKC Hammer Brand EE Jack, Schrade Cut EE Jack and Schrade Cut Lobster

Continued

NYKC Hammer Brand 3" Whittler, Keen Kutter 3" Whittler, Imperial Single Spring 2 blade, John Primble Belknap 3" Jack, Simmons Barlow (EC Simmons), HBS Barlow and Remington Barlow with synthetic handles?

Also had a chance to visit the beautiful Oregon coast great weather better than Las Vegas:confused:

Blue Heron in Florence Oregon

Well there you have it Thanks for looking! Lloyd

Some great finds were had at the show that is for sure.

JustinR, RDaneel, Old Engineer. Thanks for the great comments. I was amazed at the comments from the people at the show about my Grandpa's knives. While wheeling my Father thru the lobby to go into the show
we were stopped by a gentleman who saw the display earlier and he shook my Fathers hand with a great big smile and talked to my Father for about 10 minutes about how great his Fathers knives were.
It was a great day. The comments kept coming all weekend. And to top it off the display won a nice award. The award itself means little to me. The recognition means the world.

Wow I really like that diamond edge jack with the flat bottom bolster and I love that Schrade lobster in jigged bone.

Great photos, Dave. I am looking forward to photos of your knives, especially that IXL! Thanks to everyone who commented on my knives. Gedlicks, I looked over your Grandpa's knives display a few times, great to hear the story behind it. Lloyd, WOW!!, beautiful knives each and every one!
Dan

Great display and history, gedlicks!! It is efforts like yours that makes the Oregon show what it is!!

Lloyd, you made a monumental haul! Each Schrade was worth the trip by itself!
My fave is that English Jack - probably the oldest you found. All great knives, I feel honoured to have briefly CFed and CEed them!😀

Just wonderful everyone, thank you for the pictures. Looks like several of you added some amazing vintage knives to your collections, congratulations!
