... is that they only make two mid-range sizes. Knives up to 6" (5" to 6" effectively) and knives up to 8" (7" to 8" effectively).

Who wants to put a 6.5" knife in an 8" sheath? That's the problem I face with my SJ TAC LE. Blade length from scales to tip is really more like 6.5", which just doesn't work in a short Spec-Ops.

I have heard that Spec-Ops is discontinuing the Survival sheath and going solely with the Combat Master. I wish they'd simultaneously expand their size offerings and move to a system of 6", 7", 8", 9", and 10" sheaths. I clearly like the sheaths (see below); I just wish there were more sizes available.

Current Spec-Ops rigs I've made up: Camillus Becker BK-7 (Leatherman SuperTool 200), SH-E (Leatherman SuperTool 200), SR Chopweiler (Leatherman SuperTool 200), BATAC LE (Leatherman ChargeTi), BATAC (Leatherman Wave, old style).

Can you tell I found some SuperTool 200's on clearance? :D

You should check out www.semperparatustactical.com.

Dan's nylon/kydex rigs are awesome!
Some view it as an inconvenience to send a knife off for fitting, but the Kydex is molded for your knife (no rattle, and no wacky fit)

Nice collection btw!:D

You can get the SJTAC to fit in the 6 inch sheath if you remove the screw which holds the liner in place. May need an alternate way of keeping the liner in place though it doesn't seem to slip out on the one I have.

I thought about removing the screw and just hot gluing the kydex in place (as it's done on many cheaper nylon sheaths). I'll probably just send it off to Semper Paratus though.

When I get done with the Spec-Ops liners, there's no rattle or wacky fit. Takes a bit of heating and bending though. Also note how most have a groove cut on the left side of the kydex to allow the micarta scales to fit down flush against the liner.

i agree with Guyon, that's why i don't own any, they don't fit, i have enough problems carrying enough booze with me so why would i want to carry a couple extra inches of unusable scabbard.

While I'm wishing... I hope CamelBak comes out with an XXXL size.

They only go up to 100 oz., and we all know that's just not enough Scotch. :thumbdn:

I got two of them, a 6" for one of my CG BATAC's, and an 8" for my Ratweiler. With the minor mods mentioned by Guyon, they fit snug as a bug in a rug!

i used to put a sjtac in the small spec ops. it fit, and i was worried the edge would hit the screw. as far as i could tell it did not.

but that was a long time ago.

I tried fitting mine. I took the liner out of one of the smalls and slid the SJ TAC in. With the knife fully inserted, the tip stuck into the space where the Chicago screw goes. :thumbdn:

I need some more supertools!!!!

Jason, I found them at, of all places, TJ Maxx, the clothing discount store. http://www.tjmaxx.com/index.asp

They get all kinds of gadgets in stock around Xmas time. This year, I've seen Leatherman folding knives, Leatherman original PSTs, Leatherman SuperTool 200's, Victorinox Climbers, Victorinox Spartans, and some Wenger SAKs. Since I posted about this gear bonanza, at least one other person has seen the ST200's, and another has seen the PST's (at their respective stores).

The LM SuperTool 200's were $34.95, about $20 to $25 off their lowest internet prices. (They're now a discontinued tool). http://www.leatherman.com/products/tools/retired-tools/super-tool-200/default.asp The next best price I could find online was at Ace Hardware Outlet, where they go for $49.99 plus shipping. http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=leatherman+supertool+200&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf

I found two at my closest TJ Maxx, none at another location, and then two more at another nearby store. So now I have four. :o It's a good tool with nice long handles and a good assortment of all locking tools. Not as nice as the Wave or Charge IMO, but for the money, a great buy.

Damn...I didn't even know there was one near my work.......now I have to go!!!!

My wife's second residence is our local store. I was with her when I saw all this stuff.

I also saw that their motto is "Never the same place twice!" It's true. You can go back the next day, and everything looks shifted around. It's maddening. I bought the first ST200 and went back about three days later for another one. Took me freakin' 20 minutes to find them again! :grumpy:

Hope you find some decent stuff at your store. The knives were all over in the "Men's Gifts" section at both stores where I had some luck.

Here's a decent pic. My only dislike is that the lock-release mechanisms rattle just a little bit when in hand. I've read that this is common, and it doesn't affect function. Also, they don't rattle inside the sheath pouch, so it's not really a big deal. The tools do lock up nice.

I prefer the Combat Master because it's more streamline. The plastic buckle/clasp on the Survival version is a little bulky IMO, but I have read you can get a little more in the pouch.
