The Sinks of Gandy

I dove in caves professionally for 12 years and taught cave diving. >>>>>>>>> Steve Poll

Wonderful.

I must admit, exploring a cave under the earth is adventure enough; diving into a cave.....well...that would scare me.

Munk,

What are those caves in that cliff network you had pictures of like? Remember to send pics for me to post next time you go up there:thumbup:

Hollow, there are caves throughout the area.
There is even a big one said to rival Carlsbad if it were ever developed.

Some of the caves have ndn paintings on the walls. Most of the the cave floors are covered with pack rat sh-t, sometimes several feet thick.

I found a bone in a cave with a tool cut on it- always wanted to have a anthropologist take a look at it.

One of the best rules I learned as a sport diver...stick to sport diving limits. I've peeked in caves...but was lucky to be wise enough to not look "just a little bit deeper". I'll continue to leave that to those properly prepared, trained and equipped.

Well said, Nasty. Sport divers should never do deco diving. Every certification agency discourages it. Besides, most sport divers carry one cylinder of, usually, air. There isn't enough gas in it for a long deco.

Always be trained and equipped for the type of diving you intend to do. The caves do take untrained open water divers. In the last 10 years even trained cave divers have been lost in them.

But, cave diving was great. I do miss it.
