I am thinking about getting an ontario ranger rd 6. I would like to change out the grips from micarta to g10. I noticed sheffield knife supply has plenty of g10 that i like. The problem is i cant figure out which to buy basically what size scales. Can anyone help or explain what measurements i need to do?

At a minimum, you will need 1/4 thick, 4 1/2 inches long, and 1 3/4 wide. Get wider if you can. The Micarta on the RD series is good quality, they are beefy handles that have a lot of room for customization.

The orange scales that come factory from Ontario are G10

Plus, their easily spotted if the knife is dropped somewhere. :D

I am not sure if G10 comes in sheets, Micarta does. There is at least one maker who makes wooden scales for the RD series, available on Ebay.
if you don't mind me asking, why don't you like the Micarta scales? You can still find them in OD green and Tan.

go to the knifemakers services for sale part of the forum there are a few scale makers that can make you anything you want. Look there but expect to spend $100 for them
