Traditional French Fry day

How have you found it?

I was initially very happy with my laguiole from FP, but within 12 months the circular bit of material at the pivot of the blade had worked out some. The blade when closed now sits completely off to one side.

Around the same time my FP sport laguiole in mammoth turned up. There is a small crack in the ivory which I can wear, it is after all a natural material but the grind is terrible. Right near the tip I can literally push my finger on the blade and run it along the last few mm without causing harm.
I did send photos of both knives to them and they said they'll repair the former but I've got to ship it half way around the world so as yet haven't. Didn't acknowledge my comments regarding the mammoth sport. I haven't really touched either much since, I think I'll probably just stone the mammoth myself and redo the edge near the tip.

I wanted to buy another knife from them a few months back as I like the look of their Rondinara but I'm a bit gun shy now.

Thanks for the question, I bought Laguiole on the brand's website and luckily I don't have any problems with mine.👍

Hatchet_Jack Hatchet_Jack I can't give links as they're not official dealers etc. I buy my French knives from France as I'm in the EU but the Aurillac pattern is made by many makers custom & production so carbon can be found. Other scales such as Horn or Olive etc.

I suggest looking up G.Destannes knives in France and Thiers-Issard GR range....

For the one with the pivot problem, from your description it sounds like a problem that you might be able to fix by peening the pivot. Gary W. Graley Gary W. Graley might be able to offer pointers.

Appreciate the nod but I don't know that I would be the best one to offer ideas regarding that, I tinker, but at my own risk ;) photos of the issue would help for sure and someone more knowledgeable might chime in then.

Genevrier, buis, et olivier.

When I started my laguiole accumulation, I knew I wanted to get some covered in native French woods. These are the three I have so far. Now I just need one in noyer.

Striking grain in that olive. I can see why you are hesitant to send it back for the pivot crack. Chances are that you would not get replacement scales like that.

Juniper, boxwood, and olive! Amazing piece of olivewood!! Good start to your collection, Christian!!

kamagong kamagong That's a real downer on your Olivewood Lag Christian. I've never had any difficulties with my two shadow Lags- Horn, Ebony but the potential is there I suppose.

I think I would return it ASAP, that crack could be filled but it could open up as a big piece dropping off the pivot, then you would have to get it re-covered anyway. The bullet must be bitten...

Good luck!

Great watch, and deserved a BTT for any who missed it until now! Always loved Laguiole, and been kicking myself for ten years now that I gave away my one and only.
Gave it away??? Well that's an outbreak of insane generosity :D Been there myself....but you really need to fix up the yawning chasm in your collection:cool: Good working Lags don't have to be expensive either the G.David range gives a lot for not much cash, of course, artisan versions are more thrilling....

Will is correct. You need to immediately remedy your current situation and get another laguiole to replace the one you gave away.

The G David recommendation is wise one. I have many laguioles, and even if I could only keep a single example I would be well served by the David I own.
