These are two skinners I have just completed. Both have stag scales and ATS-34 blades. The top knife has dovetailed copper bolsters while the bottom knife has dovetailed 416stainless bolsters.
Both blades and bolsters are satin finished to 400 grit.
Let me know what you guys think.

Very nice! While I very much like the copper of the first, the Skinner is to die for. Flat ground of 1/8" stock?

Really nice work. Those blades sure are nice with the bolsters. I dont know if I am right but those blades look like they dont have a secondary bevel which is the type of edge I like. Am I right or is it just the pictures???

AncientSUL,
I scanned the knives in before I sharpened them. They will have secondary bevels.

Crayola,
Here's a tip: Once you start to put the final satin finish onto a blade, make one pass over the blade with the sandpaper then move the sheet over just a hair and make another pass. This way the same grit won't keep going back into the same scratch marks. Keep doing this until you see an overall satin finish.

Beautiful knives Phillip!!! Do the copper bolsters, which I love, need any special finish or coating or care??? Is there a certain kind of copper that works better for knife furniture???

Take care!! Michael

I placed my order for the copper bolstered pattern yesterday at the Chesapeake show. They will be putting ivory scales on it. Super slick little knife.

Very nice. Great look with the copper. Very smooth indeed.

I saw in a knife magazine a knife with copper bolsters but the bolsters were hit with a torch so they were "burned". They looked great with the brown wood handles and I imagine the torch bit helped the corrosion resistance. Thanks for the tip Phillip!
