UK Ban on Ninja Swords

It's funny- they did think of that. I don't know if you read their definition and possible impacts to other knives, such as tuna knives.
I didn't read that until this morning.
Doesn't seem like they thought too much. They're like "oh well, shorter and longer ones are still ok, so tough s**t."

So, now I have read the pertinent parts of the linked document. My takeaways are that there is no reference to swords of historical use by the Samauri class of warriors in Japan on the one hand, only referencing a hypothetical "Ninja Sword", not a Samauri's Katana. Another takeaway is that one of the defining features of the so-called Ninja Sword is the presence of a "Tanto Point", which is meticulously defined.

I clicked around some and found pictures of Katanas. Wikipedia has a pretty good article on the subject. I am sure that there are other authorative articles as well. Most of the depictions of actusal Japanese Samauri swords do not have the so-called Tanto Point. Most have a smoothly curved transition from the long cutting edge to the point.

I don't know how the legal system works in the UK. I have a strong feeling that in a US court, this definition could be circumvented or shown to not apply to most Samauri style swords that follow a traditional or historically accurate blade form used by Japanese Samauri warriors.

I am glad that I live in Texas.

As far as blade legislation goes, it seems like there's a genuine interest in protecting katanas and other historical weaponry, and they're actually trying to limit this to represent "ninja swords".
It looks like this would have a very very narrow impact to a fringe set of the population, and like not2sharp not2sharp has alluded to, this is such a limited scope that I wonder what they think the preventative value is.

It kind of feels like a, "hey look! we're doing something!" kind of thing.

Don't forget that your pocket knife can't have a lock on it.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
Once they ban all knives, they can look forward to an increase in clubbings.

It's as dumb as the proposed gun laws in the usa... as if crims are going to adhere to the law.

Everyone should carry a knife, everyone should carry a gun. Good people outweigh criminals by a massive margin.

I'm always brought back to that church shooting video in texas where the older fella took out the would be mass shooter with a single shot. Peak civilization.

Hope it all works out well for all parties affected. In a way, defining a Ninja Sword is a little like trying to define "Assault Rifle" here in the USA.

I just did a search on Yahoo using "Tanto Knife, Traditional Japanese" as search terms. A quick scan through images shows that most of these small knives aslo do not have that well defined iconic profile that is now popularly called a "Tanto Point".. Most have a smooth sweep from cutting edge to point.

I look for those who make and those who buy these so-called Ninja swords in the UK move to a more traditionally profiled tip in the near future. . . .it is just a shape after all.

It’s in English- you can read it in the first posted link. I of course recognize your request is for someone to do this for you, but I can’t feed it to you, I can only make it easier to find. I’m including the intent of the definition (section 3) along with the proposed definition in section 4. I will say this- they were very thoughtful about the definition.
I'm in shock that somebody was actually successfully murdered with a Chinesium Rainbow Assault Poker (aka CRAP). I can imagine a group of guys at the factory laughing as they "made one good one" just out of boredom.

4.3 (i) “single straight cutting edge”

Just add a slight curve and you are good. Ridiculousness. This has to be a response to some single incident.

It is. Some kid got killed by another kid with a rainbow "ninja sword" over a debt owed by another kid, mistaken identity. Morons.

Craziness.

Imagine. You cant own a junk novelty sword but a viking sword or broadsword are perfectly fine
