After receiving a small Inkosi today, I’m wondering how it compares to an Umfaan.

Anyone happen to have both for a comparison pic?

I no longer own any Umfaans (or Inkosis for that matter…) but they are considerably smaller and I found them very difficult to open one handed. A fairer comparison would be with a Mnandi which I think is an overall better choice for a carry knife (esp. considering the price difference.)

ETA: On the rare occasions I did carry one I treated it very much as a “gentleman’s knife” and did so using the leather sheath and resigned myself to open it using both hands.

Good info. Thought it would be tough to find anyone that's seen both.

I've always thought the small 21/31 was a bit too small and didn't realize that the small Inkosi was smaller still until today. That said, I like it in some weird way and now the Umfaan is on my mind again. The little Inkosi is tough to open (vs a small 31) and I imagine that the Umfaan would be tougher yet. There just isn't much space between the scale and stud.

Each year I procrastinate purchasing an Umfaan...the more they cost. Maybe I just need to do it.

It may not be apparent in pics but the Umfaan is downright tiny in hand and the thumbstuds are wee little pointy things.

On a purely practical and financial level

One is made from Ti the other from unobtainum and is priced as such!

My small Inkosi that I have had for 4-5 years is brick sh***thouse. I just wish the pocketclip grabbed onto my pocket better. This knife has a tendency to pop out.

I guess I'm a moron. My adjustment per your recommendation may have done the trick.
I rarely use the clips, but when I do they get bent out of shape, snagging on stuff. To bend it back, I remove the clip, then clamp the end to my work bench, leaving the clip to hang over the edge. Press down gently, and you will bend the clip in exactly the right place. I've found that if I try to bend it with my hands or another tool, it gets tweaked in other ways that affect fitment.

Not an Inkosi but an Umfaan, small and large regular.5737E86C-AAE7-4F9C-87A8-03126348001F-3308-0000039DE7038684.jpeg047EF59B-33A8-44F6-B350-4B6171429034-3308-0000039DE662E280.jpeg
