Vanadis 8 vs M390

How do these two compare?
M390 is stainless, vanadis 8 isn't; But how do they compare in edge retention and toughness?
I found in an article they have about the same toughness (40j) and M390 has more carbides (20%) than vanadis 8 (15%) and has a bit more wear resistance.
So of the two is M390 the better steel?
 
Uddeholm and Bohler use toughness tests in different directions (transverse vs longitudinal), so the 41J that was measured with Vanadis 8 is significantly better than the 39J measured with M390. Also the hardness of the Vanadis 8 was higher when tested (60 Rc vs 58 Rc).
