Has anyone had any experience with the Chinese vespa off knife? I just watched a youtube video review on it and the guy says that they are better than micro tech otfs. This is the only review that i can find about them and i would like to see if anyone else has delt with one of these knives. They are around $140 which is quite a bit cheaper then some microtechs.

I did some research and it looks like they used to make counterfeits, but have since moved to cloning designs without logos. Pretty much everything says they are well made, but I just can't trust an otf with no warranty. Too many moving parts and points of possible failure to be worth the risk. That said, it looks like if you get a Microtech you may get warranty service at some point... I would just recommend a different otf really. Benchmade has great ones and their warranty is top notch, Protech makes a few, and there are a handful of smaller companies popping up now (but only time will tell if they last long enough to keep a warranty).

I did see a video of the internals of a Vespa, and it was pretty impressive how much detail is put into the machining. Sadly with no warranty and a suspiciously low price you have no way of telling how the quality of those machined parts are, it could be really well done garbage.

Yeah thats one of the things i am worried about. But pretty much the only thing that can go wrong with them is the spring. I have seen websites that offer spare parts for all micro tech knives and was wondering since the vespa otf has the same style of the older combat troddon, will these springs work.

I wouldn't buy a Chinese anything, especially an OTF. Buy the Microtech. Also, check out Ravencrest Tactical; they are made in the USA OTF's.
A lot of these us companies are taking the China made knives assembling here in the US, adding their name then selling for a much higher price. Go look at the cobra tech videos and you will see that one still has the China name Atomic on the clip. Just saying.

Edit, sorry did not see it was a necro thread! Ravencrest is still not made in the United States

Warranties are only good if the company actually backs it.I have bought many products because of warranties. When they broke they had so many loopholes or reasons they couldnt fix or replace them.I looked into vespa and even if they are good quality they are over priced for a chinese knife.People need to get out of this thinking that high price means better.Vespa has some styles I like but I will try to find 1 on sale.

I will say I still like microtech they make a damn good knife but If the so called authorized dealer doesn't give you an R/A number your warranty means nothing.SALTY do you own a vespa? If so would you recommend it?

Not true , You deal with Microtech directly if you are in the states. There is no reason to got trough your dealer

I tried directly with microtech once they required me to get a return authorization number from my dealer. Well, that dealer went out of business and I had no bill of sale they couldn't help.Besides I have enough microtechs.Im really interested in vespas and mtn forged but I want real world input before I spend my money.

Unless blade forums goes away its not a necro thread.Posting on the internet is forever my friend.Obviously more to be said.

I own a couple Horizon Bladeworks OTFs as well as a Microtech. The Horizons are made well also and are made in China but do cost less than a Vespa. the people I do know who owns Vespas seem to like them quite a bit as well. I went with the horizons because they have a few models for less than $100 so to me that was worth the gamble and I've been pretty happy with mine. (Sentry and AD18). I looked at the Vespas also but they are more than i was willing to spend on a chinese OTF although i believe they are decent from what ive heard. I love my Ultratech but I dont think its 3x better than the Horizons when comparing costs but a USA made knife is always going to be more expensive. My 2 cents.

Unless the internet is running out of room, It's time to necro this thread again. Found while researching Vespa. I think it is helpful to keep things together.

My Microtech warranty service of late has been really, really fast. Like single digit days turnaround for spa and/or fixes.
