Video: I May Have Gone Too Far

This thread has certainly taken a turn for the best!
I'd love to see a becker handled training rod test!
And no...I do not wear a vest. :D

Not a hater here, but I do have a question: would the outcome have been the same with a Becker that didn't have the secondary guard as on the BK7, BK9, BK10, or BK12? I'm just wondering if the same forward guard design of the standard Becker scales would have worked as well on its own.

Yeah...I was thinking the same.
I have a few that I plan on removing that little tab and grinding it down to the scales, like the bk2 is.

This sounds like a job for the Becker stabby thingy!

The "secondary guard" doesn't really do anything. The ergo is what keeps your hand in place. That outcome would've been the exact same if I had used the bk2, or even the bk5. But, with the 5 you might lose your tip. The 21, or the 4 would have just been weird for this test.

Outstanding video. The real deal, nerves and all. Solid stabs and chops, very gutty thing indeed. I'm always amused when people talk about the grivory feeling slick or slippery and it tells me they haven't used the knife much at all. A deeply textured handle is great to pick up and wave around, but well thought out ergonomics and a smoother texture will give you hours of actual use without hot spots. This video destroys the idea that Becker handles are slippery. It's all about the ergonomic design and this proves it. Period. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work.

Rick,

As always, a great video. You keep making them, I'll keep watching them.

You looked so serious at the beginning that it was clear to me that you were more than a little concerned about what was to come.

Don't let a couple of numbskull haters dissuade you. You're videos are always well made and convey good information. Thanks and keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next one.

"Don't go talkin' smack, Becker grips rock!"

Great closing statement :D

Nice work on the video to lay that notion to rest

Thank you, trade. Always proud to impress you.

Thanks, mbay!!! One of my new year's resolutions was to be a lot more active on the internet across the board. So, there will be plenty more videos to come. I have two on the editing table as I type. Thank you, abundantly, for you support. It means the world to me.

There's a special kind of pride that one feels having been quoted... in a positive sense.

I feel rather like Einstein.

Too much, too soon? Maybe [emoji4] thank you, Needle!

This ruined my horror film watching last night, I just had to postpone, fearing it would not stack up to the chills this gave me...

I haven't seen this test done in long time and I want personally thank you for your guts to do the test. It's been awhile since I have taken the BK-9 out and used it, Since we moved there hasn't been any need to. I'm all ways for someone getting off the couch and practicing their skills.

That's just too cool. Thanks

Well, it just needed to be done, and I guess I'm the perfect idiot to have done it.

Sometimes you just have have to find things out for your self. But your video is further proof that Ethan may know what he is doing when it comes to designing knives.:D

Good video Rick and thanks for sharing.

The tradewater has spoken. Great video!

Those of us who know... know. Those that don't.... need to USE a full handle Becker!

Yeah, I agree. I finally watched it, and based on some of the comments, I was expecting hesitation. However, you just have to look at the depth of penetration to see that there is considerable force behind the stabs and chops. Of course, one could overcook the motions and incur injury, but that's not the point. The point is that the scale design offers considerable safety even in slippery circumstances.

Good video. I like the lead-in music too.

Hey Rick......

Whew......,

I really loved this video for any number of reasons.........

First off smooth does not equal slippery...... Smooth means fewer hot spots and blisters and raw flesh with long term use......

Having said that for the umpteenth time I need to thank you for the vindication......

Also..... You got the original story almost right and Bladite got it almost right....... Anthony Lombardo and Will Fennell were selling for Blackjack way back when and were getting the to slippery thing from customers and decided to do a little test.... They went out to the Fennell farm and dipped a BK2 into some Automaic Transmission fluid and proceeded to repeatedly stab an innocent cedar tree (junipera Virginiana)...... Without deleterious effect...... Both could be described back then as large, strapping young men and they gave it their all...... What Rick did was successfully repeat that experiment on video...... One of the reasons I am so happy that he did this is that I will not have to do it myself...... I am old a relatively feeble and I do not heal as well as I used to...... BTW I have stabbed and chopped enough hardwood to see that Rick was really working the blade...... Nuff said.....

So thank you Rick for doing this......

Ethan
