W77 question

Hi, I've got the above model boot knife and have had it since, oh, maybe '82 or so. My sheath was wearing out so about 4 years ago I went into a knife shop looking for a repl . They didn't have one, but the clerk got a bit excited about my knife and showed it to the other clerk. He whispered something like "grind compared to" and so forth, but my impression was that the older version of this model is different than the newer one. Can you maybe enlighten me as to what he might be refering to ?
Or is he just blowing smoke up my %#+ ?

Brian,
Camillus Cutlery bought the Western brand & tooling about 9 years ago. Your Knife is likely an original Western built in longmont CO.
