Warranty epicness

Guys, I didn't mean to kick this thread into a modified discussion, and certainly did not imply Ban damaged it. Just commentary that I think if this were another major manufacturer they may well have seen that the knife was touched to a grinder after leaving their shop and sent it back without doing anything.

Based on what I saw in pictures and having some grinding experience myself I doubt Ban did anything to mess it up. Infi has a pretty high tempering point and is pretty forgiving. Regardless it's just good on the Busse crew to handle it. Even if the edge was over heated properly grinding it back enough to get rid of the chips would expose new HT'd material and resolve the issue.

Sorry if my post sent this discussion to a darker place.

Speaking of all these problems with INFI has me a bit stressed out . So I decided to see what the hive thinks about this. I was able to score a CS Fatback Defender on the most recent Ganzaa. Upon examination of the blade, I noticed the tip on the right side is a bit discolored and looks like it was burned during the edge grinding of the blade. My question is "should I be worried by this?" I spent a pretty penny on this gorgeous knife and wouldn't want the tip to be compromised by any means necessary. Just looking for an honest response with this as this blade for me is a Kepler. I can send emails of the tip if need be. Thanks HOGS :). Looking forward to your input.

I would shoot a pic to the shop and ask them. I doubt they would let a blade out that got hot enough to hurt it but you did buy a Custom Shop blade and not a CG blade so I would think they'd take care of any obvious blemishes that bother you.

Awesome of Busse! I haven’t been down to Waimanu in years now. The last time I went we spent a few days boar hunting. It’s truly a beautiful place.

Thanks for the speedy response clampdaddy. I guess I'll go ahead and snap a few pics and forward them to Garth. It's a gorgeous blade nevertheless. But wouldn't want that blemish/burn to compromise the integrity of this gorgeous blade. Many thanks again for the prompt response .

I have only one take away from this thread. I can go out and beat the crap out of my nmsfno and if anything happens I will be taken care of for just the price of a priority mail flat rate box. This is why all of my users are Busse (and kin) and folders... Please Jerry make a folder!!

it is bit strange and looks like chipping where it was supposed to roll. Maybe this NMSFNO ground too thin as it was modified?

It's contracted a contagious metal virus. If you keep it, it will likely infect your other knives, and sooner or later the blades will all fall off. Best to send it to an authorized disposal facility to prevent the infection from spreading. I can give you the address of one if you like.

INFI should laugh at rusty old nails...There's something seriously not right when an iNFI blade takes this much damage off of an interaction with a mere rusty old nail. o_O:confused:
I'm no metallurgist but to me, all indications point twards those voids/inclusions in the steel as being the problem. No idea what puts them there, but there they are.

It wasn't ground during the modification, Ban polished the existing, CS-applied convex grind. Next time I visit Waimanu, I'm going to take the repaired knife and beat the ever loving :censored: out of that nail. If it does this again, I'll request a replacement.

Couple of important facts concerning nails. Nails, just like screws, are not all created equal. Chop into a drywall screw or some deck screws and your edge will be marked up because these screws are often case-hardened. Just like barbwire, the case hardened outside can be extremely hard. The case hardening can bring the outside shell into the 60+Rc range while maintaining a core hardness of 20 Rc. That is a recipe for disaster when you're talking about angled, glancing strikes. The edge can break through the outer core and dig into the softer core which under heavy impact can tear an edge up.

I have no idea what level of heat the edge of this knife was exposed to during any operation outside of our own shop. It takes very little time to unintentionally overheat an edge when buffing. o_O

Bottom line: We ALWAYS honor our warranty! If the customer is not happy, just send it back in. . . we will make it right, we always do! No ifs, ands, or buts! :cool::cool:

*** Two important notes. First, I do not suggest taking the knife and beating on the same nail that caused the damage to the edge in the first place. That's an angry nail! Second, unless there was tip damage, we would not have had any reason to significantly shorten the length of the blade.

If the customer is not happy. . . Send it in. . . . Please.

All will be well. :D

Let's Drink!

You know Busse is the shiiit...when we are having a concerned discussion about a knife blade being slammed into a nail repeatedly (guy was trying to hack down a tree...with a knife). Then we wonder why it chipped. Starting to sound like a bunch of spoiled rich kids that have never known failure:p.....but then again, we are in a way spoiled:D

Thanks Jerry for the explanation! Just reaffirms why I love this brand!
Dito, the only thing I would add Jerry it is your personal interest and all be it concern in your customers satisfaction is why Hogs and piglets are so loyal to you and the brand. Two cheers for Jerry aka (Bossman) and all the Busse (Kin) crew. HIP HIP HORAH, HIP HIP HORAH.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Love it. Just a quick question... what morphing is required to turn a piglet into a hog? How many does it take to graduate? Will there be a HOG GRADUATION KNIFE COMING OUT SOON? THE TEAM GEMINI LITE ENFORCER HOG SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION..... Oooo yeah
