Wedge good, Steel bad

I just picked up a close-out Wedge in 420 J2 for $12.75 after the governor and mayor's shares.

Great design. Holds an edge better than other knives of this steel, but it's still poor.

Kind of wish I had waited for the steel upgrade I've read about but that store is not going to carry the Wedge anymore because they don't sell well.

If what you are doing is primarily slicing work, try leaving the finish slightly coarse, say the red DMT (fine) grit hones. 420-J2 is fairly ductile and the microserrations should last awhile and because of them the knife will slice decently well even when the edge is deformed.

I didn't know there was a steel upgrade, what is being currently used?

Allegedly, they are going to the same steel as the Wedge II, 6M or something?
