Hello all, I'm an outdoor type person you can catch me on my kayak fishing, mountain biking, running, hiking, camping etc. I need a more versatile fixed blade knife. Currently I have my Kabar Becker BK-2 strapped on my camel bak while I do my outdoor activities. I used paracord and made it ride on my left shoulder strap, I'm sure you guys understand. The thing is the knife is perfect but i want something a little more subtle and compact. And need a sheath that can be strapped on my shoulder strap on my camel bak and also on my waistline belt when I go fishing. What do you guys suggest? Or is this impossible to find a production knife to fit my needs, if not I can go custom route. But wanted to check on here if you guys have more info to help me out. :)

Check out ESEE knives. The Izula, Izula-II, ESEE-3, and ESEE-4 are all knives you should consider. I also do a lot of kayak fishing and hiking and I'll be carrying the 4 and Izula-II for all of next season.

The Izula and Izula-II are small fixed blade knives that can easily be put into a pocket or on a shoulder strap. The ESEE-4 has a blade length of 4 inches and can handle just about anything that gets thrown at it. The 3 has the same nice handle size as the 4, but the blade is an inch shorter.

Another for the ESEE Izula/Izula 2. Or you could try to grab one of the last Rowen-made HEST fixed blade knives.

I had my izula on my pygmy falcon 2 strap when I had it. Fit great.

You might check out the Fallkniven WM1, which you can get in the excellent 3G laminated steel. Comes with plastic sheath. You can put it on your belt, strap it on your backpack or wear it as a neck knife. Very subtle. Very ergonomic.

Bark River has many smallish knives, woodland or highland special are just a couple. ESEE is great, Becker is coming out with some in-between sizes this year.
Any preference on blade length, steel, coating, handle or sheath material?
What about thickness?

Another vote for the Izula or BK11. Or you could check out the Eskabar, it's the slightly bigger BK11 blade on the Izula's handle. But on the cheap I also vote for the Frost/Mora knives. I have one and for the price it's great.

You need versatile sheath, that means Kydex-type sheath with multiple eyelets. If you stick with the same length (5") your choices are ESEE 4 and Cold Steel Master Hunter.

Another vote for ESEE from me... The BK-2 is great, but the ESEE knives come with a better sheath, better warranty, and better handles. If you already have a Becker knife and love it, you will love an ESEE.

Here are mine...

What aspects of the Bk-02 and BK-11 don't you like so we could go from there?

Bk-11 Love it as a pocket knife, BK-2 I like it as a hip knife. So i want something in between, something lighter in weight and more versatile, meaning the Bk-2 is a hefty knife, the Bk-11 is a little to small as a all around knife.

the Becker lineup will come out with some "Tweeners" within a few months so I read here in the forums. They will fill the void for those looking to split the difference of the BK-02 and Bk-11. I personally have a Benchmade Rant that is smaller than the BK-02 and much more lightweight. It's stainless however but VERY ergonomical. Just a thought. Ran me about $50

I love my Izula on a pack strap. It also works well for me with the sheath wrapped in paracord and slipped over a belt for horizontal carry. I also like the look of the Eskabar, but don't own one (yet).

This isn't a great pic, but the Izula is great on the strap. And that is a small pack.
