What’s the story on Demko AD 20s?

When you get your scales, share them in the Den of Demko thread! :)
I was. I talked a big game about not letting the grivory get me down, but I couldn’t stop thinking about some decent scales. I did get just the aluminum scales. I didn’t see a need for titanium, nor was it in the budget.

I’ve got a knife center D2 sharks foot 20.5 on the way right now. Excited to try it out.
Such a great knife. I wish they’d offer different steels, notice I didn’t say better, and scale options without sending the knife over $200. I got mine for $125, which I could live with, but I had a hard time justifying Aus10 and grivory for $150 plus, and I’m not a materials snob. I just want value for my money.

I’m curious to see how I like the grivory on this one. D2 for $125 was a little easier to justify than the AUS10.

Nice! I want one, but I think I'll wait until the hype dies down a bit or production ramps up. I've not got the patience of reflexes to contend with the dealer market nor the cash to handle the secondary market. 😉
I can definitely understand that.

I was fortunate in my timing and inquiries that the stars happened to align, and that I got the version I was looking for at the dealer's price from the good folks at DLT.

I have a couple of the AD20, owned some of the AD20S and have a 20.5 in grivory and another in 3V and Ti. I love the AD20 in Grivory but the 20.5 felt a little flimsy between the skinnier build and smaller pivot. The 20.5 in Ti really transforms the knife and is one of my favorites, especially given the fact that it’s pretty available.

AD20 full size full thickness very hard to get
AD20S full size "slim" blade also hard to get
AD20.5 smaller knife, made in Taiwan, comes in AUS10A, D2, or 3V so far

Knife Center has most all 20.5 versions as of right now ($150 D2, $189 3V, $265 3V carbon, $375 3V Text Ti, $315 3V smooth Ti sold out)
BladeHQ has coated AUS10A ones for $125 as of right now

DLT Trading now has both textured and smooth Titanium and other versions of the AD20.5.

Coming from someone who is not a carbon fiber fan I do believe the carbon fiber version is the best value for the money. I like the feel and balance of the carbon fiber version better than any other versions including titanium. The price is very good for what you get. I am glad I tried the Carbon Fiber.

The smooth titanium version I find to be heavy. The textured titanium is noticeably lighter than the smooth version as well as not too heavy for my tastes. The prices for the titanium 3V versions are well in line (proper) with the materials used. Being all metal they are the heaviest versions.

These 3V versions in general are not by any means overpriced. The German D2 versions are not overpriced either. The design, quality, and fit of these knives are top notch and I can't think of anything that beats the easy to do fun fidget factor.

The grivory grips are the most underrated feature of these knives. I prefer other materials for looks and feel that being said the very tough grivory is properly textured and works great as a knife handle material.

I did some minor carving of lace wood with this tero tuf scaled 3V AD20.5 and the edge has remained the same after as far as I could tell.

Original Goat is killing me. I’m not complaining because I’m sure they are a small and family friendly business, but I ordered my scales during the pre Labor Day sale and it still hasn’t shipped. I feel like a child waiting for Christmas!

I've got my red scales still for my 20.5 if anyone wants them for a change of pace. I love the new scales too much to ever go back.

It says right on the order pages, 4 to 6 weeks processing time. Maybe that's just for full sized AD20 scales? IDK. Labor day! Is that all? I ordered August 11 and am still waiting.

They told me it would be shipped today. Also says processing takes 3-5 days. Maybe because I just got the raw aluminum. I’m not complaining, just sharing that I can’t wait to get them. Hopefully you’ll get a shipping notification soon, or better yet, it shows up for you today.

Yeah I ordered full sized Ti. So yeah that's different than the aluminum. Not complaining either. Just feeling the same way!

It looks like the titanium versions at DLT are regular AD20.5's with titanium scales. That is, thin titanium plates, that go over the inner steel liners (just like the Grivory ones)

My AD20.5 has solid titanium frames, with no milling or inner steel liner.
Anyone know when they made this design change?

Are you sure about that? Where are you getting this information?

No, I am not sure about that.
I said it "looks" like that and then asked for more information.

Per the below photo -it "looks" like you can see a steel inner liner, behind the titanium.
If I'm wrong, I'd be glad to hear it.

Pretty sure that's just the light. Look at the edge-on pics in the KnifeCenter listing (same knife):
