What brand of DVD?

Even though your TV may not have the capability for component input, make sure you get it on your DVD player so you can use it when you upgrade in the future.

We have a large-screen Pioneer HDTV and the component input makes a visible difference...so does the progressive scan capability.

Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Pioneer all get great reviews. If you want to part with some bucks, look at one of the higher-end Denons...they are astounding and will play anything.

Good viewing!

UPDATE:

Today I bought a Samsung P231. It is a 3:2 progressive scan unit with MP3 capability, CD-RW capability, component video output, JPEG viewer, and a bunch of other techno stuff. The salesman recommended it over the more expensive Sony, and it has received excellent consumer reviews. It cost $85 brand new. :)

It seemed to work just fine tonight.

Our $65 APEX from Wal-lyworld is still going strong, but just in case ours goes 'tits-up' (we gave away our spare), please do tell...just where did you get the Samsung P231 for $85???

Thanks in advance komondor, and many happy viewings! (Once you go DVD, well, you know the rest...lol) ;)

I have had a Phillips 5 tray for 2 years now, its awesome. I paid 300 when it came out, now they sell for 150...

Melvin,

I got it at Sears. They actually have a pretty decent selection of DVD players. Prices are right, too.

Check it out.
