What color do you prefer for hiking backpacks and bags, khaki, green, black?

dark colored packs are hard to see inside of, because light doesn't get around so easily.

Personally, I DON'T like the screaming bright blues, reds, and oranges on most non-military type packs. Not that I'm hiding or blending, but it just looks so out of place in nature.

Same here. Light colors on the inside of the gear is a must have for me. Khaki is functional, and fairly neutral when sprouting knives in touristy areas, even if I'm covered up with PALS loops. And it's the same color as my dogs, so the hair doesn't show. :D

I like black, but seem to grab my OD green pack over the others I have. Khaki would be my second choice.

Any of the brown color family for me, and for hiking in bad weather, hunting season, or passing through herds of idiots I use a bright yellow rain cover.

My feelings exactly, though I don't have the yellow raincover (yet). I hate the "visual pollution" of dayglow orange, blue, red, purple or yellow packs in unnatural colors. The same for tents. It isn't a matter of "hiding" as much as just not standing out like a sore thumb. If I want/need to stand out, I can drape a orange space blanket over the pack/tent. Black is too hot in these Southern climes, and camo and greens are OK for hunting, but neutral browns/tans/grays are more to my liking.

Khaki, here in the midwest there is plenty of tan, brown weeds and brush. I like Ranger green but have no gear in that color.
