What do you use to clean your eyeglasses?

run water from tap (i have a filter on my kitchen faucet)
drop or two of dishwashing detergent on each lens
use wet fingers to lightly swirl soap around
rinse off
wait a few mins to air dry and for water to run off
use Zeiss cloth (came with glasses) to finish wiping up

Similar to the above, except that I do not swirl the soap/detergent. I just put few drops on each glass and wash it off with the water stream, relying on the water softening effect of the soap/detergent.

Use toilet paper or paper towel to absorb the remaining moisture (just apply the paper to the surface and take it off, no other kind of movement)

Wipe with microfiber cloth.

I find that putting them under the tap causes verdigris inside the nose pad things that sit on your nose. I can say that toilet paper (clean!) will scratch them after a while. Tissues impregnated with eucalyptus oil are fantastic, but those impregnated with aloe vera leave smears on them.

I only wear protective/ sporting eyewear. None of them are glass. So I don' t know if this applys to opticals. When they get really dirty from airborne particles of dust, powder residue, smoke, food stuff, perspiration, etc., I use some ammonia type stray (i.e. Windex) to saturate and rinse with warm tap water- then air dry. This gets them squeaky clean in short order. In between cleanings, I fog them up with some steam from the mouth! And wipe with whatever shirt I have on at the time!

The technological advances for plastic lenses over the last
15 years are truly amazing. I can remember the first pair
I had with Transitions would scratch no matter how careful I was
and the photochromic ability was marginal to say the least-- the
adjustment time had to be at 15 minutes in either direction.

My new lenses with advanced coatings don't appear to scratch
at all and the transition period can't be more than 90 seconds.
Gotta love it.

I lather up my hands with dishsoap and gently clean every part of my glasses once a day. Has never effected any of the coatings and I have all of them.

I advise lathering up your hands completely to soften up your skin BEFORE you touch the lens. Some folks drop a tab of soap on a lens, wet their finges and rub the lens but you make have dry irritated skin that will scratch the lens.

I use a 5"x5" very old and very thin and soft cotton cloth to dry them after washing. The cloth is what's left of a non-terry dish drying rag from my grandmother.
I also have my grandmothers old floursack cloths that works well.

The microfiber cloths work well to clean smudges/oil on a dry lens but drying a wet lens with one can leave fibres on it and require a second drying with another part of the cloth. The small cloths seem to be best for glasses and the very large ones are thick and not as soft. If you wash these microfiber cloths, air dry them. If you throw them in a dryer with clothes and use a Bounce sheet, it will absorb the stuff in Bounce and transfer it to your lens.

There are nylon pouches sold with some sun glasses that will also clean dry lenses and I am told they are coating safe.

The biggest threat to coatings (scratching) are the cases you store them in. Some material inside the case will scatch the lens after it been used a lot and wears.

I use a mix of 3/4 rubbing alcohol , 1/4 water , and about 3 drops of dish soap in a pump spray bottle. For the cloth, an old worn-out cotton t-shirt piece. Works perfectly.

I like those Zeiss wipes. They come in little individual pouches.

I tried the Bausch & Lomb ones and they streaked and smudged.
