Well, I got the gf a new car (actually be here next week) and was putting together a bag to go in the back for emergencies and the like and was trying to decide what flashlight to get to include. My first thought was the ole Maglight with 3D size batteries but then got to thinking that while that’s a good light and affordable, are their better options out there? Sure I don’t need a $300 flashlight laying around in the back of the car but I also don’t mind spending a little more on something that is truly better.

So, I thought I would ask what do you all use/carry in your vehicle? And why?

Thanks

the thing with flashlights
are finding that
the batteries are completely dead
at the moment its needed.
so unless you carry spare batteries
or make a habit of checking
the power regularly,
it pays to have more than 1 unit
which functions after being
hidden away in storage.
batteries do drain and cost some.
well, don't need super blinding lights.
and have settled for any brandless
usb rechargable led flashlight...

Coldness is hard on any battery. Don't leave the same batteries in all winter and expect them to perform at 100% in the spring.
Whomever said headlamp was spot on. I also have a AA Fenix I bought second hand.

I keep a Streamlight Pro-Tac 2LX and a bundle of spare CR123 batteries in the glove box. It's tough enough to not worry about it, cheap enough to not care what happens to it, and while the tint isn't amazing the lumen levels and runtime are practical for most emergency needs.

IMO, CR123 batteries are the best option for a vehicle light because they're not as fussy about temperate swings as some other types, don't leak like alkaline batteries, and have a long stable shelf life. :)

Got an Olight i5t in each car, and leave the battery out so it doesn't corrode/drain.

This 3 AA mechanic work light was given to me a over 2 years ago and just looked online and cost is roughly $30, but have less expensive ones and light outputs. Low draw from alkaline batteries and replaced once since receiving.

NEBO Big Larry - I'm not into Asian-made products, but have to say this has turned out to be a pretty good light. A very strong magnetic base comes in handy, with my model having ample light at 500 lumens.
- COB LED technology, three light modes: 500 (or 400 or 200) lumens light, secondary light modes (160 lumens) and the Emergency Red Flash mode. Aircraft aluminum casing

I've seen them online and local stores. Mine is approximately - 1" x 7.5"; 7 Ounces

There's a Ray-o-Vac Indestructible flashlight in each of our vehicles. Those are built like brick...telephone booths. Each flashlight is powered by two AA non-rechargeable lithium batteries which have a 10-year shelf life. Considering my wife and I live in the city, it's as bullet-proof as we need.

This one changed my mind about what type of flashlight to keep in the car.

What I really like about this one is, the first click turns the red light on. Not the bright white.

Whatever sort it is, non-recharging lithium batteries are worth the money spent. The other thing to know is whether or not it has any vampire drain. About the only way to know that is to either do some electrical diagnostics, or chuck some alkaline batteries in it, leave it in a climate-controlled area for three months and then voltage check the batteries. Or just leave them out.

I keep a streamlight pro tac 2AA in my vehicle. And I always have a microstream usb in my pocket. At work we are required to have a streamlight duelie in our pickup. I haven’t been without light for a long time. I have plans to get a headlight for my hardhat. A few guys at work have them and they are nice.
