What knives/tools do you carry in your "Bug out Bag".

So you keep all that Bussekin in a bug out vehicle, in your car?

What kind of car do you drive? What color is it, and where do you work ;)

A pink Prius, and I park.... LOL! :D
It's amazing what you can hide in your car and cover with unassuming stuff like tow rope, jumper cables, and a hoodie! ;)

I have multiple bags. Most importantly I have water and food in them. Then the normal emergency stuff like first aid kits ect. The tools are no name MTs that I picked up long before I got into nicer gear. I think I have 3 in my car alone. For the knives I have a couple Gerber (yes, I said it) Prodigies. Not a bad knife really. It will work fine in an emergency and for sitting in bags that I will hopefully never use

The only bag of any sort I have is in the car and it contains a rain jacket. That's it. I've dug myself out of the prepper's rabbit hole. ;)

In my "get home bag" in the trunk of my car, I keep a few n95 dust masks (we get some nasty dust storms out here from time to time), some trail mix, and dried fruit, a gallon of water, a sawyer mini water filter. A 50 round box of .38 special +P 158 grain fmj, a Leatherman Blast, a Cold Steel SRK in a SpecOps Short Combat Master Sheath(AUS8A), a Smiths pocket pal, a Bic lighter, 2 sticks of fatwood, a large first aid kit (contents removed from the plastic case, and placed in a gallon sized freezer bag, a Grabber Tarp/Blanket/Poncho. And finally, a cheap pair of Harbor Freight's equivalent to the velcro less Mechanics Gloves.

All in a plain, low key canvas backpack

In a separate stuff sack, I keep an old pair of sprung suede work boots (still have a lot of like left in them, but no longer in my rotation). An old pair of carpenter pants, and an old 2 button light tan thermal outwear shirt, and a pair of boot socks.

.

The rabbit hole is only as big as you dig it. No need to go crazy but a few essential things are a good idea to have. Some food stuffs, some water, first aid things, a flashlight, a knife, a lighter, and of course a rain jacket (I have those emergency ponchos). You also don't need to spend a ton of money. The car is probably the most important place for most people to have a little kit. You can put an adequate one together for less than a hundred. And if you are a knife nut, it is a good excuse to acquire more knives!

My EDC-bag doubles as my bug-out/get home bag.

The cutting tools in there are a Mora Bushcraft Black, a Bahco Laplander and Victorinox Swisstool Plus or the smaller Swisstool Spirit. I usually keep my GB mini-hatchet in there as well.

It's not an edc gear thread. It's a "bug out bag" thread. Pocket knife, good shoes, and clothes for the environment happens when I get dressed in the morning. No bag needed. Not saying you shouldn't be prudent. However, when the thread is about a "bug out bag" and someone shows a pic of a sword...rabbit hole buddy. ;)

Sure. This is a BOB tread. But I thought craytab made a good point to the member who had nothing in his car but a rain jacket. Most people pay a lot for car insurance, but then many of them don't even have the basic insurance of equipment in the car to help themselves if a situation arises. Seems like craytab was just trying to be helpful to someone that has so far resisted any preparedness :)

And I have to ask if your wife has the same weapons in her GHB in her car? If so, she must be one of the most well armed women with edged weapons in the state :D

Yes sir, she does. And, she stole my first ZT0770 CF as soon as I opened it. :D

I always keep a combo of a couple of folders, medium sized fixed blades and flashlights close by; any number of each are stowed in my pockets, car, bag etc. etc...;):D

Plus, there's an axe, folding shovel, jumper cables, flares blah blah blah in the car stowed away. "Rabbit Hole" LOL. Deep in it.:thumbup::thumbup:

Fixed:
Meyerco 18xray (fixed)
Remington AAC Tac
Schrade Extreme Survival knife (1095)
Boker+ Coye Ridgeback
Grindworx Eclipse
Pair of Condor Tangaras

Folding
5.11 Tactical Turani
Boker + 3000 lightweight
3 Boker+ Titans
4 Schrade Tanto framelocks
4 S&W Skelatonized Framelock

Now I know there's better stuff out there, I'd love to upgrade some of them, like ESEE's instead of condors, etc. But shortly before my youngest was born (he's 2.5 now) I decided to stock up on enough blades that in a pinch, everyone would have what they needed + a few extra's. And I was on a tight budget so I stocked up on (half decent but functional) budget knives just for a bug out bag. Can't afford a 1/2 dozen $100+ knives, and with 3+1 people to plan for, (+ anyone who would rally point to our house), 3 or 4 knives wouldn't have cut it; so I worked with what I had.
We also got a bunch of bullets, those ain't cheap either...

Thankfully plan "A" is to stay here for a couple days, hunker down, and plan the next move, as our house is a decent location that in most scenarios we wouldn't have to leave at a moments notice... If we did though, without notice or time to plan, those are already in the grab and go bag.

*(2nd edit, the 18x and 5.11 were both recently added, and the Grindworx and 3000 lightweight weren't in the original either, but added later.)

I just order one of the lil truckers on their kickstarter - it fits in my car and I feel like I could really do some damage with it if need be.

That is really cool. I haven't seen much of anything like that that looked like it was quality enough to buy until I saw this. Neat.

Those look like some great EDC options. Useable and practical. Thanks for sharing.
We live in earthquake country. I have an emergency bag setup for both my car and my wife's car.
I used surplus USMC IBLE Assault packs for the bags. I have a Leatherman Charge TTi in each bag, Full first aid kits, food, water, canteen with steel cup, Glock shovel, 100yds paracord, water purifier tablets, UST Ultimate survival kit in an AlokSak, compass, a roll of duck tape, and a Space all weather blanket. In a second basic bag, a change of clothes, hiking boots, and my rain poncho. Now for the fun hardware. :D

Options, I like options... ;)
You sound like you know your stuff. Beautiful gear.
I carry the following in my "get home bag":
Leatherman Wave w/ bit kit and extension
ESEE Izula
Gerber LMF 2 w/sheath
Bacho Laplander folding saw
Buck Bantam (soon to be strider clone)
Maglite LED solitaire (w/ extra batteries)
ProTec 1aa flashlight (w/ extra batteries)
Pull through knife sharpener
and other assorted items (water filter, water bladder, first aid kit, paracord, extra clothes, power bars, etc.)
I also carry a leatherman wave with me. Definitely a great multitool.
strapped to the MOLLE web on my CamelBak HAWG, is an RC-3. Inside is a Cold Steel Pocket Bushman. One of the zipper compartments has a Leatherman and a Swiss Army One Hand Trekker.
I have the CamelBack Motherlode. They make some great backpacks. Definitely one of the best emergency bag options.
Leatherman Wave
Same here. :p
Thanks for sharing all. It is great to be prepared.

Well done, Zemapeli ! Throw that baby into the ruck !

Here on the Washington Coast, the big threat is a Cascadia Subduction Zone event, which will consist of massive earthquake followed by tsunami like we saw in Japan.

The B.O.B. in the car is for if you suddenly find yourself bolting ass-over-teakettle up the hill on one of our "tsunami evacuation routes". In my neighborhood, it's a gravel logging road that heads straight uphill into the woods. Should I find myself hanging out up there until the water recedes, I want enough in the pack to have something to eat, something to drink, ability to get a fire going, a flashlight to see in the dark, and something to keep the incessant PNW rain off my back. In addition, the blade/tool happens to be the LM Wave.

If I'm on one of the roads that puts me a few miles from the house, I want that pack light enough so that I can walk without it being an inconvenience. I could pack all manner of firearms and ammo, chopping tools, knives, firewood... but I just don't want to carry that much stuff. The pack is an Army issue assault pack. Not exactly my first choice, but it is serviceable, tough and it was free.

Got a clean pair of socks, though. Cuz there's nothing like clean socks to get you another 10 miles.

We had a small earthquake here about a week ago and it was a real eye opener for me. None of my gear is where it should be. I guess it slowly got scattered over the years. Time to start over. Your comments and ideas are a real help.

Thanks.

I have 2 packs... 1 in my car and 1 in the house. My bigger pack inside has 2 fixed blades suitable for any outdoors work, along with a machete/saw combo that I could hook on the pack if need be. Also a couple extra folders as back ups, though if I took that pack anywhere I would already have 2 of my most capable folders and an ESEE 4 on my person to begin with.

The pack in my trunk just has 2 folders and a utility knife/saw combo. I keep a multitool in each pack as well, plus I would bring my EDC leatherman with me if I needed either pack. On top of that I have general tools in each, small wrenches, screw drivers, Allen and hex keys, etc. Paracord in both, as well as duct tape and medical kits with scissors and scalpel. I also have multiple flash lights and batteries.... Matches and lighters too.

The basics ...
