What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Nice acorn shot! My Dad toted many a rifle under oak trees, while deer stalking! Nice to see that Walnut with the "Oak Nut"!

Thanks Charlie! I'll actually be in the woods this weekend chasing deer with the bow and arrow, maybe I'll slip this little Barlow in my pocket and let it tag along too. :D

Avatar?? What Avatar??:D

Watch for another thread on the grapvine! Soon!!;)

Speaking of Grapevines*, that's a nice shot of the WLST gang - like back-up singers from MoTown!!

*"Yes, I heard it through the Grapvine . . ."
(With a tip of the old fedora to Marvin Gaye!)

Made a P.O trip today, opened a box with my tea-stained Barlow, and found this very nice gift inside!

I want to thank the kind member here, for helping me fill a space in my antique collection, and pay a compliment;
Duane, this is the sharpest Barlow I have ever held!! I used it to open the next box, and thought I was going to cut the table in half!! It dropped through packing tape, cardboard, and bubble wrap like the stuff was just a figment of my imagination! I'm lucky my fingers are all there! I may have to keep this knife in a cage to protect the public! (tisshhh -Kaboom!)!!
Nice job, and a nice gift - thank you!!

Thanks to all of you for the education and history about wood handles. A while back, someone said this is the best thread ever. I agree.

Now, where was it I saw that walnut Charlow for sale...?

Great gesture Duane, and that's a lovely knife Charlie :)

Many good traditional Barlows had Spear Point blades. The blade on the far bottom left looks a bit more SheepLambClifFishish. (almost straight cutting edge)

Here are a few..

Here is a photo of the very Famous Mr Stan Shaw holding one of Chalries Barlows, as I traveled around England, I tried to get some shots of Barlows in different areas, here my Clip point of Charlies in the grasp of one of the last of the very great Sheffield Master Cutlers, what an honour to meet this fantastic Gentleman, and I was Rapt for Charlie as well!

I was hoping you'd post that great pic in this thread Duncan, absolutely fantastic  You were definitely there in spirit Charlie :)

I heard Stan thought it wasn't a bad knife!
What a historic photo! GEC's and my attempt to capture some Golden era goodness meets someone who has been there, done that! And continues to do that!
Thanks Jack, Duncan, and Stan!! Made my day in Halifax!!
