What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I've tried searching, but can't seem to find it:
I remember someone posting a picture of a Barlow with a picture of an eye and the word "CUT", as in "I cut" Can someone tell me who made those? Perhaps more than one manufacturer? Thanks.

Rachel, if my memory is working they were made in Germany by Lenox Cutlery.

Wayne I was hoping someone else would ask so I could remain ignorant but incognito. So I will ask. Who/What's the story on this sweet wonder of a barlow?
Some great vintage Barlows on the last page everyone. Charlie that Russell is one great old Barlow!

Sawcut Saturday,

I believe you are thinking of the Sheffield firm of William Rodgers who used "I Cut My Way" as their slogan.
But they had a curved blade and not an "eye" as a symbol. Taylor's Eye Witness used an "eye" as a symbol.

Rachel I believe I posted my Western Cutlery version in this thread awhile back. As Augie pointed out Lenox also used the stamp. I don't own this Lenox, I high jacked the photo. The covers on mine are left proud of the bolsters and the Lenox appears flush. I'm not sure if that's a clue on which knife is older but mine certainly saw much more use:) but it's still tight and snappy with no wobble.

Thank you! I knew I'd seen one in this thread, but just couldn't find it. o_O Western and Lenox were both import brands, so I've no idea who manufactured them, but the bolster shape looks quite different.

You are welcome. The bolsters do look different. The few online references I've found have no reference to who made them but elude to early 1900's knives. The eye stamp appeals to me on these knives as well as the Taylor's eye witness.
