What started it all for me...

My first real knife was a gift from my babysitter's husband. He was a knife collector/dealer and often went to knife shows. I was always fascinated with knives and he gave me this Kabar 1005 when I was 6 or 7 years old (about 40 years ago WOW!) Unbelievably I still have it. I dug it out of the safe and did two things I didn't know how to do when I last used it it. I stropped it and I carved a little bit of a fuzz stick. At one time I had 454 knives which was where my screen name came from. I sold most of them over the years to upgrade to higher quality. This one doesn't snap shut anymore but it was a gem to me then and it started it all.....

Yes he did. Have you collected those or used them from when they were newish?

I bought them on the cheap side. They were already old and worn and broken. I reshaped the blades, thinned them a little and use them for whittling. The steel seems exceptional. They deserved a new life. Here is the original thread if it interests you.
