what was your sharpest knife out of the box?

Outta the box it was a Cold Steel Night Force plain edge. Even now I can get it and my early Recon 1 blisteringly sharp. They have 440A blades, too.

OK, my Tom Krein regrinds whittle hair, and they didn't seem as sharp as my Krein customs (Ultimate Caper and Hydra). I knew they tree topped, but I never thought of even checking a 120 grit edge for hair whittling until I thought about just how sharp Tom's knives are that I may as well check parts of the regrinds edges that I hadn't cut with yet. Sure enough they were peeling off some hair strips. Krein's 120 grit edges slice so great and tree top so nice that I shouldn't be surprised that his edges can whittle hair, but that level of push cutting at 120 grit is just sick.

Kershaw JYDII w/ SG2 blade and Ti framelock scales is, without a doubt, the sharpest knife I've ever pulled from a box straight from the factory.

I'll have to say the Kershaw Ti SG2 JYDII as well...

You'll notice that the second hair was whittled twice.

The sharpest knife I ever bought was one of Spyderco's sprint run Calypso Jr's. in ZDP189.........scary sharp!!! I've had some Benchmades, Kershaw's William Henry's,but nothing has come close to that one Spyderco.
Kershaw Leek and stays the same way with just a touch up strop.

My Shun 8" Chef's knife was the sharpest out of the box :)

+1...I rarely cut myself as a meatcutter, but nicked myself just getting a 6" Shun out of the box. I knew I barely touched the blade, but had no idea I cut myself untill I saw blood.

But that is a super thin kitchen knife, for an EDC I would say...

1- s30v large sebbie... that I sold to get same with micarta inlays. Had several Sebenzas, none as sharp, but that one was the sharpest production knife I've ever had.

2- one of those Berreta airwieghts that had a skeleton blade. It was thin and razor sharp. Cut myself good while playing with that one.

3- William Henry T12 Super Conducter.

I'll mention my PARA in D2, very close to the ones above.

A $600 Kellam Moose Tommi Puukko. The Kempainen family has been making these knives in Finland since 1610.That knife is almost sharp enough to cut you just by looking at it!

Chris Reeve Mountaineer II.

I get scared just thinking about that edge.
