What would you expect Filson Bridle Leather to be (sad quality story within)...

That's a huge disappointment, and false advertising. Old timers like me ( i can't believe I sayfhings like, "You know, 35 years ago..." )
You know, 35 years ago when Willis & Geiger, Abercrombie & Fitch and Filson etc were for real you could have some assurance of authenticity and quality.
i used to walk 5 miles to the store, uphill both ways, to get solid gear at ridculous prices. Now you get crap at ridiculous prices - but it comes on a drone from Amazon.com.

HJK, you kill me.

35 years ago, I got me some Filson stuff... hunting vest, jacket, crusher hat... it's still solid as the day I got it.

Only problem is that over the years I've become full of awesome. So full that the gear no longer fits me. My kids dig it though.

Just one issue with the hunting vest, its blaze orange color has faded to where I don't think it's legal. Kid says he'll wear it 'til they tell him not to.

I don't mind paying the price as long as I know that I have gear capable of going through a couple generations. Sad that I no longer trust in that.

"Full of awesome"! So good I have to steal it :D

I got a Filson email today for their Smokey Bear watch. 1000 piece limited edition, $1,000 each. Looks like a leather strap but they didn't say. I looked and looked but couldn't tell. (Delete email.)

Same here, I really like the watch with Smokey the Bear and all the goodies that come with it, but not after what I have read here, with that movement and for that price.

More than likely Filson is renting out their name and has nothing to do with either the watch company or the band.
Not quite. Filson and Shinola are owned and managed by the same private equity firm (Bedrock Manufacturing).
It should also be noted that the parent company, Bedrock Manufacturing, is a private equity and venture capital firm run by Tom Kartsotis, co-founder of Fossil watches. Connect the dots.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the 24 HR tin briefcase. Hopefully I'm not making a mistake.

I wonder if the straps that Filson sells by them selves are they same low quality as the straps that come with the watches? I own plenty of Filson goods and the only problem I've had with their leather goods is that it needs to be treated before it's worn because it's shipped pretty dry. Other than that their belts and duffle straps hold up great. The good part about it is that you can return it with no problem.

If you want a Shinola watch go to Costco or Nordstrom Rack. Both are selling old Shinolas at a discount.

It looks like Filson goods made in Seattle are their own, including the old quality leather. They're just working hard at making us worry.

Ive had a real difficult time trying to decide between a Saddleback briefcase and the Filson. I'm going to end up with the Filson just due to weight, price etc. from what I see, the Filson 24 HR also has some organization which would be helpful. I can't express how upset I would be after agonizing about he decision, to find out the leather handles were garbage. At 400$ I'm investing in this bag. So I appreciate your input.

I got a big Filson briefcase recently, on the Exchange. Keep an eye out here and you can save some money. Mine is 100%, no second rate materials.

It seems that sadly, the "Quality product" & "Built by reputation" work ethic is going to the sidelines & being replaced with the "look what I did" or the "see how much $$$$ i made us, in a short period of time" way of thinking. I see it all the time. Guess I'm getting old-ish.

People will ALWAYS want quality products that last. Paying for them is the problem.

From what I understand, Filson was always slightly more expensive, but when did it get ridiculous? I'm sure city slicker lumbersexuals can afford their seasonal apparel, but for me it's an investment for years. We need more "working man" outfits selling gear like this.

Also, if you want Filson, search the internet. When I was looking for my briefcase I started searching and found a clothing store that was closing out their Filson gear. They had a pretty good discount on their briefcases. I asked if he had tan, he said he could order one for me at the sale price, but if I wanted brown, he'd give me an even better deal. Brown was not my first choice, but I got it for something like 30% off so I can live with it.
