thanks for all info in it. think you're first here to have one in your paws.......
yeah makes sense.Yessir. I knew when seeing these in the catalog reveal that I'd have to have one. So, full disclosure, this one was....oof, I'm going to say it even though I know some folks are going to instantly be out on it: I paid $275 for this one. And as I said previously, the Mini Range, they were asking 235 if I recall correctly. That is a lot for this knife, I admit it.
As for the Vantage, yes sir those are a good deal thicker. As I said before, this knife is clearly meant for slicier EDC tasks, and all around seems to have been built to disappear into a pocket. I like it, because that's good EDC design language, but if folks want a large, robust knife that can do EDC stuff but also be the knife you have on you in the event of the zombie apocalypse kicking off.....yeah, the Range is probably not that knife.
Yeah, I don’t see me spending that much for those knives. I am wondering if that will be regular price. If so, Buck seems to be pricing itself out of existence.Yessir. I can only guess. But, what folks spend at Blade is not necessarily an indicator.I'm not sure, they certainly had a lot of folks hitting their table and walking away with black boxes both when I was there, and every time I happened to walk past. Their various CKS offerings were going for between $150 and $250(ish) I want to say. They had a pretty great selection, though nothing was prices what I'd call cheap except for the two Auto 110s on blowout.
Thanks for bringing that upActually, it's exactly as thick as my new Spitfire (which should be the thickness of any other Spitfire) and the Range blade is thinner at the spine.
I'm seeing the Ranges available for pre-order on a couple of the big on-line knife places for $219 & $209 for the large & small Elites, and $124 & $114 for the Pros.I can only guess. But, what folks spend at Blade is not necessarily an indicator.
I think that is the MAP on these. A little better and I would think that the Pro discount would be even better- more in my “range” for this caliber.I'm seeing the Ranges available for pre-order on a couple of the big on-line knife places for $219 & $209 for the large & small Elites, and $124 & $114 for the Pros.
It's possible that the significant price difference in what I paid is due to mine being one of the first ones produced. An awful lot extra for some words on the blade, but candidly, if I knew that going in....I'd have still done it.I'm seeing the Ranges available for pre-order on a couple of the big on-line knife places for $219 & $209 for the large & small Elites, and $124 & $114 for the Pros.
Well, considering how many knives they had available, and that people were still buying them, I would (gently) argue the opposite. I think everyone knows by now that the days of the $42* 110 are behind us, and that Buck has had to increase the prices of their knives for any number of reasons, and people seem to be ok with it! But frankly, given how literally every other maker/manufacturer has also done so, I can't fault them. Things cost more these days, not a whole lot we can do about it and frankly, I would absolutely not want to see Buck go under, so when they release things I like, I buy 'em!I can only guess. But, what folks spend at Blade is not necessarily an indicator.
Yours is a bit different, and could even be considered a collectors item. You're probably like me. If it's something I want, I have no problem paying a little more for it. One or two of the YouTube Blade Show reviews I watched mentioned that the plastic/Zytel/whatever they call it handle of the Pro trim level has a bit more width than the smooth Aluminum of the Elite level - maybe like a palm swell it sounded like.not sure im loving that on the handle. would have preferred it was vantage thick. think I just need to get one and try it out as I dont hate the spitfire.......

That's kinda why I went ahead and pre-ordered a Range and a mini, both pro, not elite, from Knife Center. I figured getting them sooner from KC for maybe a couple bucks extra was worth it over waiting for them to come in stock on Buck's website dead last after they fill all their retailer shelves (not that that's bad - just the way business is done, and I get it). That way the kids can pick which size they want for Christmas, and if they end up cheaper from Buck by the end of the year, I'll buy there, if not, then I'll have more rewards points in my account at KC. The only downside to ordering from KC is not being able to get the engraving like when ordering from Buck. Thanks Quiet for your info.
The Benchmades never really excited me and I'm not a Spitfire fan.
An aluminum handle just isn't my idea of a nice knife.
I my opt for an frn version, but ill probably wait for another handle option .
I highly doubt there will be any BCCI pricing any Ranges.
I have many of Bucks modern folders, but the knife on my belt everyday at work is still a 112 or 110.
While all those other expensive knives sit unused in a drawer.
I'm sure the $55 markup was for the Founders Edition at Blade Show. I wonder if any of the Founders Edition versions are going to show up anywhere else, maybe in the Factory Store or as a Web Special or something.Yessir. I don't really know, but it's possible. I didn't check back by to see if they'd sold all they had, but if not, I'd expect those to make an appearance elsewhere. As I said before, I'm not sure if they had twenty in total, or twenty of each color and size.I'm sure the $55 markup was for the Founders Edition at Blade Show. even 20 in each size and setup....that still ain't a lot. makes it a rare collectible.....I don't really know, but it's possible. I mentioned this in the Latest Acquisition thread, but the more I think about it, I think these are a direct competitor for the Kershaw Bel Air. The regular Range Elites seem like they will be priced right in that window, and if Buck is taking any cues from Kershaw whatsoever, I expect we'll see the Range in a variety of scales colors/material options offered over time. I can't wait to see what BOTM models we might ultimately see!! Man, this knife in Carbon Fiber? It'd probably weigh like an ounce.even 20 in each size and setup....that still ain't a lot. makes it a rare collectible.....
I think even for the money paid its still a nice addition to any collection.
