PS, I don't believe these are your average Corby or Loveless type of bolst and screws. Especially not the ones on the Strider knives.

Hmmm, I'll give it a stab....;)

The Ryan looks like it has button head torx.

The Strider screws are some kind of proprietary deal, someone told me that they are bicycle screws but I have no idea what part of a bike you'd use them on.

The Emerson screws look like cap or socket head torx.

I have no idea if I'm 3 for 3 or 0 for three but that what it looks like to my eye.

Button head and socket head torx screws are available from http://www.halperntitanium.com

Try a bike shop for the Strider type screws and please let us know what you find out! :)

Thanks Peter, I think your 3 for 3 there :D will let ya know what I find. Later bro.....RDT

The screws are unlikely to be mated, usual method would be to drill and tap the tang then trim the screws to length so they go only half way through the tang. The screw on the other side will take up the other half of the threaded hole.

Small sizes like #4 and smaller require only 1/16" of thread to be engaged to achieve the rated pullout strength of the screw in steel.

Hi George,
I was thinking about trying that actualy, but I was hoping someone out there came up with a slightly quicker way. Not that it would take too much longer to tap the tang. That seems like a good strong, secure way to do it though. Thanks.....RDT

David Dempsey was telling me about using a folder pivot that was threaded so you would not have to tap the blade. He never gave me the contact info for his source though. Try him at dempseyknives.com.

a much easier method is to buy the pivots that halpern sells, drill the holes out to size in the tang, c-sink the insides of the handles a bit, and screw the screws into the pivot shafts......much easier.

Yet another way is to drill four holes in the tang so the screws can have full threads to bite into. Make the show side holes exactly where you want them to be, then drill the holes for the offside screws right next to the two original holes. You won't really be able to tell they're off unless you look down from the spine of the knife or unless you study the piece carefully. A good way to go if you really want that full thread.

The Strider ones are chain-ring bolts. Chain-rings are the big gears that are attached to the pedals. Any good bike store sells them in sets of five. They are aluminum and usually available in different colors. If you go to a Motocross bike shop, they usually have the biggest selection of wild colors.
