I was told this is a good grit to use for an all around finishing compound for blades. Where is a good plave to get this grit?

never heard of it...but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

personally, I use the more common compounds available at knife suppliers and woodworking shops.

I have some typed up on a spreadsheet if you're interested.

Hey Pen, I have your spread sheet already ;)
I'l have to look at it again to see if it shows grits....

It's called "greaseless" buffing compound. Most Knifemakers supply stores should have it.

It's a glue based abrasive, and is very aggresive, so be careful with it, or you will ruin the knife.

I use 240 grit greaseless all the time but not on my small HP system. In order to apply it to the wheel you have to repeatedly start and stop the wheel under load...blows breakers and frys capacitor start units. I only use it on my 600V 7.5HP unit.

500 grit is too fine to remove any scratches.
