Interestingly, given your user name and the above image, I happen to have a walking stick made to look like an Irish blackthorn made by an individual some years ago doing business as "Mendowood".

The "stick" has a metal dowel at its core which was then epoxied over and lacquer painted to give the appearance of the traditional Irish walking stick.

The head of the stick is made from a beautiful piece of burl from Pacific Madrone.

It was gifted to me by one of my friends and fellow forum member from Texas quite a few years back.

That is interesting. We a lucky to have more than our share of really talented woodworkers around here, and some of the best wood to support the craft.

I had a neighbor that was very proficient with a lathe. When I would come across particularly interesting or highly figured pieces of wood while working in the forest I would set them aside and take them to him. He would turn them into bowls and other pieces and they would be sold in galleries. Here is a bowl that he made me from some Bid Leaf Maple from my property as a gift.F035A8B0-CAFE-46D0-9AC9-8F91B0A6C517.jpegE5DCA9F5-B122-4D20-B8D0-8965C0CFD5D9.jpeg

Need the technical specs on this one, please. I’ll be submitting it to the formal list of Nathan’s Breaching Tool Attachments. Thank you.👍🏼

Nobody said there was going to be math!

35" length

3.75" circumference (on the stick)

2 lbs 4 oz.

You don't want to be hit by this sumbitch. It's not as fast to wield as my actual Irish Blackthorn, but if it does hit, it's gonna break bones. I use it when I know some bad dogs are roaming around...otherwise I mostly carry the real Blackthorn so I don't have to shoot the curs for the error of their ways.

Here's some info from the kind fella that sent me the stick back when:

This is one of the "heavy" ones.

ETA: I think, as I recall, the steel pipe is filled with a wood dowel to provide some give before all the epoxy and finishing touches are applied. It's been many years since I had a phone call with the maker. He was a pretty cool guy. Made these things for all manner of individuals...some good, some not so good.

Previous joke aside, this is a really nice one, E. Thank you for the info. I’ve been in the market for a bit.

Everytime you post an appendix carry shot Gus, I just know I am gonna read a headline at some point that goes like this…….

“Florida man, trips over piss bucket, and blows off own genitalia.”

When I do, I’ll be like “Hey, I know that guy!!!!’”
Be thankful he doesn't take the shots in his skivvies.
