Which knife is less intimidating for work.

If you're concerned about the exposed part of the knife while in pocket, you can look at swapping the clip with a deep carry one. If you contact Benchmade support, you can ask if they'll send you a clip for the 810 (Contego), or there are some 3rd party titanium clips that run about $8. That should leave only a fraction of an inch exposed while in pocket. The Grip and 943 can both use the same clips.

As for which is more people-friendly, I'd say they're about the same. Some people just get intimidated around modern folders, be it Dragonfly or a ZT 0300. If it's that much of a concern, I'd look to a Traditional, SAK, or pliers-based multi-tool (Leatherman, SwissTool, etc.).

I agree with what you are saying, for some situations. But if the right person gets weirded out by my blade they will tell me to not bring it and use the knives prived at work. Theyd prefer that anyway. So i dont want to push it. All we have are safety box cutters, hawk billed carpet cutters?, and straight bladed, blunt tipped dull utility knives. I think they would prefer us to use stuff without a tip.

My vote is for the orange griptilian. Essentially the quite normal blade shape and bright orange color put off a vibe quite the opposite of a tactical knife or weapon.

Well, it turns out that we are all delusional, including myself. I went to the knife store today and had three ladies give me their opinion on which knife looked more intimidating. All of them said the grip.
Reasons:
The blade is 2-3 times bigger (taller).
The handle is barely seen in my hand. It's all about the blade

I kinda had this feeling. Granted, there are smaller and way way less stabby looking knives than the 943 but the amount of blade is what gets them. I think it may have to do with the 943 looking less capable than the grip. Think about it. A case clip point is way stabbier looking than a grip, but which is going to be more intimidating to sheeple without seeing the entire knife? 943. I get to buy a new 943!!!

no. :D

I am ordering the 943 and picking up a mini grip tomorrow. Also, the blade is too similar to my torrent for me to justify it being any different or less scary. Thanks for the advice though. I will see how it plays out.

As a note, we got a new butcher knife at work today for food. It should be considered a death machine to all the sheeple compared to the 943, but they aren't thinking.

I'm going with the idea of, fudge em.

One hand openers make sense on job site but not in an office/lab setting.

I find that people don't give a second look to my Opinel. For that matter, they react well to most traditionals so long as the size is not too big.

who says the opinel is not one hand open/close?

If you want a short, stout blade with a decent sized handle, please check out the Emerson CQC-14 SF Snubby with a 2.7" blade and a full-sized handle.

I'm not usually a fan of Emerson knives (except for my new Mini A-100, thanks Patrick!), but this is a big boy knife with a reasonably small, work-friendly blade on it. I don't see how you can go wrong. It even has a wave opener on it for those days when you really have to hustle to open that package.... :)

You are spot on with your recommendation. It's a great recommendation. My first purchase for a smaller blade for work was a CQC-14. I just received it about two weeks ago. I didn't like it. Something about the knife just didn't do it for me. I got rid of it within the week. Yes, it was about as hard use and usable at work as you can get without people thinking you are crazy, but something about the knife just didn't do it for me.

I didn't like the G-10 texturing. I thought it would have been more aggressive. The Kershaw leek G-10 S30V texturing is perfect and rugged. Hides marks and dirt blends in well. Snubby, not so much. I don't know how to describe it, but that knife just didn't do it for me. ???

That's interesting. The G10 my my Mini A100 is legendarily aggressive. Seriously. When I can man-handle the clip onto my pocket, I have serious concerns that pulling it straight up will rip my clothes. :) Here lately, I've taken to just throwing it in my pocket with my Key Ring Of Doom. So far, not a scratch on it.

None of those they are all aggressive looking. I recently converted to a slipjoint escape. Love it.ipucked up a trapper model with a 4 inch handle and 3 inch spry and clip blades. You could find one with a wharncliffe and pen knife and people won't blink as it looks so old fashion. A blade non pointed is still your best bet..

Looking at a mini grip 707 940 etc...etc... they all look very aggressive in an office environment.

CRKT Tribute is nice!
