Try a pineapple. I do it for all my GEC and tool steel knives and it’s the best method I’ve found.

If you want a different kind of pattern you can stick it in an onion over night. You can see all the layers after. Works with 1095 and super blue so far.

Also the time of letting the materials react with each other is longer than what I've tried so far.
