Who likes credit card knives?

I've got one of the few rare Mad Dog credit card knives, and carry it daily. As you can see this knife design is popular and has been fairly rare. I'd be in the market to purchase another one as well.

Sniper308, I had been wondering. What are the differences between the JSP's and Mad Dog's? When did Mad Dog make his and how many did he make? Does anyone know when JSP started making theirs?

Bernie

Wow, I had no idea Credit card knives were such a hot item! How bout this, anyone who`s interested e mail me at marksa@nni.com and I`ll write down the interested parties names and e mail addresses. After I`ve added them up I`ll know how much steel to order and I`ll get started ASAP. All the first ones will be carbon steel. I haven`t decided on what kind yet 1095 is readily available,L6 would work well but I`m having a hard time finding it in the sizes I want,5160 would work well too but only seems to be aailable thicker than I want. If anyone has any preferences on steel type or thickness (1/8" or less than that?) let me know. I`ll try to get sme scans of a rough prototype at least this weekend and I`ll keep you posted on my progress here. Thanks guys for your interest in my little project. Marcus

Marcus, just FYI, the JSP that I have is 1/16" and I think it's the "perfect" width.

Bernie

I have two credit card knives. One is a Tool Logic, the other an Edge Tek. I like carrying a knife without the obvious outline.

Thanks for all the e mail responses. I`m going to reply here rather than individually because there were so many. I`ve been calling steel suppliers all week checking on 1/16" carbon steels like 1095,5160,L6,01 etc. and many aren`t available in the thickness (thinness) and width I need at the same time. I`d like to use L6 or 5160 because they`re so springy but they`re not available in the needed sizes as far as I can tell. So far it looks like 01 is the only one to fit the bill, unfortunately it`s much pricier than the others. If I have to use O1 they should hold an awesome edge and be very tough but I`ll have to charge a bit more, like maybe $25 to make up for the more expensive steel. I`m still waiting for some call backs though on others so they may still be do able. I`ll keep you all posted on their progress as it happens. Marcus

As a user I have little attraction to credit card knives. Seems to me any time I can carry one I can carry something more useful that I can get a better grip on, and a tactical pen is a better deep cover weapon IMHO.

As a collector, though, that's just the sort of thing I love! Why? I dunno. I also love pocket pistols even though I already have more than I have pockets for, and single-shot .22 rifles -- I have no idea at all why I like them so much; I have no particular use for even one, let alone a whole collection of them.... I just think they're cute.

I've been arguing with myself for about a month now, trying to talk myself out of wasting time making a credit card knife for myself. If you're going to start selling them for $20-25 I'm going to have a hard time talking myself out of wasting $20-25. A little voice keeps whispering in my ear, "You have to carry cards anyway -- you can stick a credit card knife in there with them -- so what if you never use it? You'll never even notice you're carrying it and someday you just might find a use for it...."

I would be interested especially at that price you know you can never have too many blades never know where your hands will be when you need one plus one like that for that price if you have to loan or loose a knife most people can stand to loose 20-25 for a knife.

Things are just about ready to roll on my Credit Card knives. Steel will be zone hardened 1/16" O1 tool steel, blanks will be water jet cut then finished, ground and sharpened by hand with a right hand chisel grind. I apologize for not getting any pictures scanned but I`ve been unable to hook up with anyone with a scanner,I`ll keep trying. In the mean time I`ll describe the final configuration for those interested in ordering. Length and width are the same as any credit card. Th cutting edge extends across the short side and 2" down the long edge in a 90 degree constant radius (lots of belly). The two finger holes are 1" in dia. and are staggered diagonally the long way,the lowest one being close to the bottom corner of the "card". This allows the "card" to have a distinct foreward rake when gripped which both presents the cutting edge at a favorable angle and allows the corner of the "card" to fill the palm somewhat and act as a thumb rest. It`s best gripped in a closed fist saber or hammer grip, though it can be pinch gripped of course if desired. Using the finger holes and hammer or saber grip full power slashes are reasonably comfy and suprisingly effective in the testing I`ve done so far. Now that I have some idea of how many people are interested I`ll take *actual orders* now(e-mail only please,marksa@nni.com ). Include your name, address, and the number of cards you want. The finish can be Scotch Brite satin, beadblasted, with or without clear laquer or baked on enamel (flat black, or silver). The baked paint finishes are an extra $3. Beadblasted finish is the default. I`m making 20 in the first batch, they`ll be first come first serve. If you don`t get in the first batch don`t worry I`ll make more when they`re gone. I`ll notify each person by e mail when their "cards" are done and let them know where to send payment, then they`ll be shipped out ASAP. The G10 version will come later for those interested. Delivery time should only be a few weeks. Thanks all, Marcus

Marcus, if you want to send us one, we'll scan it in for you, and take pictures of it in action as well. Let me know if you are interested.

Brian,my e mail address is in the preceding message. I guess I`ll have to edit my profile or something to avoid confusion.

Spark, wow thanks for the invite! I wish I had one that was presentable right now to send you. The only one I have now has been used for testing and it`s really beat looking. However as soon as I get a sample done that`s representative of the ones I`m selling I`d be more than happy to send one your way for pics, testing, whatever. I hope to have one done in a week or so. I`m at the mercy of the water jet cutting guys at the moment. If you have any preference of finish for testing or pic taking reasons let me know. I`m certain they won`t dazzle you with brilliance

but they should be a good value for a hideout knife. Thanks, Marcus

Marcus, simply send one in whatever style you are going to sell it in, nothing fancy, and we'll do a full blown review on it. Heck, if you want, you can send one for a giveaway knife, it's up to you, but I just wanted to let you know that if you want we'll get you some pictures of your CC knife with no strings attached.

After all, it's what we are here for, right? To help everyone out.

Bill,I haven`t gotten an e mail order from you so far. It`s okay if you decided you don`t want them but if you still do try me again so you get on the list. The first batch is going fast.

Has anyone seen a credit card style blade rigged up as a neck knife?

It seems to me with the right Kydex sheath, this could be an interesting hide-out.

Joel

I never have, but it`s a great idea! I`m wearing the prototype as a neck knife right now and it`s seems great so far. With an .040 or .060 kydex sheath that leaves the finger holes exposed it should be super. How about a kydex multi carry sheath that can be used for neck carry or secured inverted anywhere you like with the aid of a large HD safety pin which the sheath will be made to accomodate? It could be clipped inside a jacket under the arm for shoulder holster type carry or in a purse,or on top of a car`s sun visor ,or whatever. The CC knife and sheath should in theory be so flat and light it would make carrying a StiffKiss feel like a KaBar.

The best part of neck carry is that if the outline is seen it`ll look like an ID card on your neck and not a knife. What do you think? I`m game if you are. Marcus

Multi-carry would be slick. I believe Nealy uses an oversized safety pin on one of his smaller models.

Hmmm. This could be a possibility in my elusive search for a decent, non-folder to carry while running.
