I really like the peanut pattern and was wondering who made the best peanut.

I have an anniversary coming up and was looking for an idea to give my wife of what to get me.

Case come to mind when I think peanut so if that is the best option great but I was looking for some other ideas.

Hard question to answer (the concept of "best" is also quite personal).
I love my smooth bone Case peanut, it's a beautiful knife.
But if I was a peanut fanatic and wanted to go after one, it would probably be the AG Russell model with the clip/wharncliffe combo. Never owned one, but it looks awesome :)

Case is probably the best one to start with. I traded into a yellow Peanut in CV steel and saw no need to go further. That said, the AG Russell Peanut in Quince is really tempting me.

Well, it's just my opinion, but Case makes a great peanut. Especially if you can find one with the Thomas damascus. But, I know that A.G. Makes a 'nut worth drooling over. It's kind of like boots; there's Justin's and then there's Tony Lama's.

But both will get you into the cult!

Carl, Grand High Muckba.
:D

Queen makes a nice peanut. I think they are a Smokey Mountain Knife Works exclusive, though. But nuthin' wrong with a Case. There is one in my pocket right now. :D

The GEC #06 Pemberton is a nice homage to the Peanut IMO. Still the Case in CV/Yellow delrin is hard to beat, and my favorite, personally.

Do yourself a favor and take a look at the Northwoods Peanut at www.knivesShipFree.com. I bought one a couple of weeks ago and am very impressed with it. I've never seen a better one.

Something else I like is that stag can be hit or miss on a knife. Frankly, most of the time you can expect to be unimpressed. At KSF the peanuts are all listed in individual pictures... so you can pick the exact knife of your preference.

Check them out and see what you think...

The AG Russell pinched peanut is pretty awesome. The Case Select line of peanuts are also quite nice.

My vote goes to the Northwoods in D2 & stag,my next nut when I get back to work.
And being as how it's D2 I assume it is made by Queen?Anybody know for sure?

Peanut choices, look on the bay, search "stag peanut"
There is a beautiful and unique bare head stag peanut with a buy it now price, no bidding wars. Its not mine..
There are lots of other stag peanuts on there.

Think about what kind of blade steel you want

Case Stags are usually Case TruSharp Stainless, not very popular with the patina lovers
the most posted peanut on this forum is the chestnut bone Chrome Vanadium bladed one.

the pick of the litter in Case is the Stag Raindrop Damascus, they come up occasionally

there are currently some single blade peanuts in wave damascus, not raindrop

the northwoods in D2 steel

and the AG Russell made in Japan using VG10 steel, the Russell has unique pinched bolsters, and an interesting secondary, not a pen

There is also a Case Peanut in Stainless, with scissors instead of pen, and has a bail

So, pick a blade steel, CV, TruSharp, D2, pick a handle material, chestnut bone, yellow delrin, stag, and go shopping!
Happy early Birthday
post pics of your present :-)

GEC makes a great peanut!...........

They just don't know it yet.

I like case peanuts the best of the ones I have handled, they just feel right.

Case Select with candy stripe scales. This one is stainless but it was the long pull on the main that sold me. I have always admired the candy striped celluloid scales of yesterday and am still pretty excited to be able to pull this one out of my pocket everyday.

I'm happy with my case chestnut bone cv peanut. I also have a case amber bone stainless peanut that I like but I'm going to be dying it a shade darker. Other than that I'm done buying peanuts. :D

I would have answered "Planters".... but since we are discussing knives here, I won't be able to inject an opinion. I have yet to purchase a peanut knife of any sort, but... would love to add one of the little critters to my collection, at some point :-) As for the picture above of a Northwoods peanut.... is it me and my aging eyes, or are those handle scales kinda falling short on their fitting. If they are made by Queen, which is likely based on the D2 steel blades, they came up a wee bit "short"... pun intended. Btw, I am very much a Queen Cutlery fan :-) As for the Russel, what is the country of origen?
