Why switch on the mule

I recently purchased a ka bar mule but was unaware of the switch from Taiwan and aus 8 to China and 420. I ended up with a 420 version. I'm disappointed not through any fault of ka bars but I just assumed it was the original. When did this change happen and why?

My understanding is the Taiwan made Aus8 mules are still available.
(I've just had a quick look on Knifecenter as I have no access to the Ka-Bar website.)
I used to have one ages ago and liked it lot,but ended up giving to a young fella headed to the sandbox.
The China made mules (with G-10 scales) were introduced some years ago and sold along side
the Taiwan models as a cheaper alternative.

I just never knew about the china models I hope it ends up an ok blade. Not fond of China knives nor 420

420 with a decent HT isn't that different from AUS8.
I'm not a fan of the 5CR - it's run pretty soft.
