Your favorite bushcraft / survival knife under $100?

I have a BK2...RD4.... Rodan....Ontario ASEK...JK...ML.....and a Blind Horse Bushcrafter. I love the BH! If I needed a "big" knife to cut through a Buick I prefer the FFG of the RD4. Having said all that my wife and kids seem to always grab the Mora Robust for chores outside.
Shop around and get something you will want to keep. Maybe a custom so you can personalize it and make it your own.

My current favorite is the Casström No 10 (Swedish Woods Knife):

Micarta handle, O2 tool steel.

Try a new BK-10 when they come out this summer or in a few weeks---which ever.

How about both of these with custom sheaths for $100? I'm always surprised how well they work out in the bush.

Sak with saw(Farmer) combined with a Mora should leave you some money to buy other "survival" items like firestarted kits, rope, water purifying tabs...
If it has to go just to a knife I get an Esee4, slighly over $100,- but well worth it.

my favorite bushcraft knife? anything with a scandi or convex grind and a blade that is in the 3-6 inch range and has a good handle and sheath, *coughcoughmoracough.
favorite survival knife? something full tang with a blade in the 4-7 inch range that has either a scandi grind, full flat grind, or convex grind, and same as before. good handle good sheath. if i had to narrow it to something specific, probably an esee rc 4, bark river bravo 2, bark river fox river, or the fallkniven a1 or s1.

I don't baton with my bushcrafter, but if I had to have something to complement a SAK and wanted to do bushcraft and baton for less than $100 it would be the BK-2.

I guess a pocket chainsaw would make things real fun :D

Saws are a good idea but I'd stick with a folding type like the Bahco or Silky. I tried one of the chainsaw type and they suck. I'd rather have the saw on a SAK.

For a knife pick whatever you like. You can baton just fine with a mora and most quality knives will be stronger than that. Stay away from overly thick knives. They're cool but functionally worse than thinner knives unless you need to pry which you probably won't. I have yet to need a knife as a pry tool.

The monetary value of one's knife has little to do with whether or not someone deserves to die. No need to spend over $100, no knife is worth much more than that, in the view of usefulness and what you can get for the money.

Can't say it enough, Enzo Trapper, in O1 if you're a purist, S30V if you're in need of stainless. For a traditional bushcraft feel, go for the Scandi Zero grind, it is excellent. The blade is 95mm long (3 7/8"), and the full-tang is thick enough to qualify as a "survival" blade, if you were planning on abusing it. The completed knife will run you anywhere from $100-$150, depending on the steel, but the real draw is the ability to buy blade blanks and source your own handle material and hardware (~$60-$80) or a kit with everything you need included, which you can simply assemble, sand, and finish (~$80-$100). This way, you can rock with your own handle material and fit the knife to your hand exactly, and in the process, make your knife more personal to you.

The Mora's are nice for $15, but I argue that this may be the most high-value "bushcraft" knife out there.

They also have a larger knife, the Camper model, with all of the features of the above, but with a 5" blade, if you prefer larger ones.

Oh, and I would advise against batoning. Get a saw and/or hatchet; your knife will last longer and you will be able to process wood faster and more easily.

Really? i'm up for a $100+ Helle as much as the next guy, but if you want a mora made out of the same sandvik steel for only $15, then why not?

I think he was joking fellas.

My izula 2 and bk9 are the only knives that ever go with me into the woods. They pretty much cover it

definitely pickin up the bk10 when it re-releases and that will probably take the 9s spot.
