Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

I just acquired my first barlow. It's a Schrade USA Gran pa series-black delrin with a brass bar on each side of the scales and nice scroll work on the brass bolster and file work on the springs. Now carrying it in my rotation.

Congrats Win W winchester73 ! Sounds interesting.
One blade or two? Can you put up some pics?

Maybe a 6 or so. I have 3 73's and they're all about the same. I have an Osage Orange that had to be a 9 when I received it but it's ok now. It doesn't hurt that I have tough nails.

These two came my way this week. The Boker Barlow with Grenadill Wood covers and 440C blade steel was purchased locally. The Tidioute Rust Red 13 Whittler was purchased on the exchange.

Not a big Barlow fan but I like that Boker

My uncle gifted me the 78 DAK he got when he joined the army in '79. When he discovered I collect knives he told me he never used it and I could have it.

It's got a brass liner / center scale :):

It reminds me of my dads DAK which always hangs on a nail in his garage / workshop.

Please. Details on the Boker? Build quality, first impressions, etc.
Think those are made entirely in Germany, being marked Solingen.

Hi Frank! My first impression was Wow, what a great knife. The blade is perfectly centered. It has a half stop and is very smooth opening with excellent walk and talk in both directions. The 440C is very sharp out of the box. My wife was driving home and I was admiring the Boker so I stropped it several times on my jean leg and it was popping hairs with ease. This overall fit and finish is excellent to my eye. I chose the Grenadill over the Bog Oak for two reasons. This was the last Grenadill the dealer had in stock. The Bog Oak is serial numbered on the back of the blade and was a few dollars more. Overall this Boker is sized at 3-1/4" and is a very slim and pocket friendly knife. It is made entirely in Germany.

Cool. Thanks!
I've been very impressed with the Solingen Bokers. Wanted confirmation from someone else.

Here are a couple of Okapi slipjoints. I did not realize there was such a thing until I saw the email from Baryonyx. The larger one is called the Big Sable. It uses the same handle as the ratchet knife. The smaller one is the Genet, shown in the lower pic with the Biltong, an extremely handy sheepsfoot. I got the Biltong a couple of months ago, but it had to come from a different source.

I know very little about the provenance of these slipjoints, except that they are made in South Africa, and look like the product of a cottage industry. I don't mean that as a knock. The production values are not up to the standard of a similarly-priced Opinel, but they are better made than I had been led to believe, ecpecially if you get them from Baryonyx.

The Okapi ratchet knives were originally German-made. I have no idea if the slipjoints were also made there, or if they only appeared after production moved to South Africa.

My cell phone camera really distorted the proportions here, especially in the bottom pic. The Biltong and Genet have similar proportions, and actually use the same handle pattern.
